Duties Prepare patients for eye examinations by obtaining intake information, reviewing medical history, and visual acuity. Operate ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment including A-scan biometry and tonometry devices to assist in accurate eye measurements. Perform basic ophthalmic procedures such as eye refraction, visual acuity testing, and administering topical anesthetics following aseptic techniques. Document detailed clinical notes during patient encounters using Electronic Health Records (EHR) system while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies. Assist the optometrist during examinations by managing medical records, updating patient charts, and supporting diagnostic testing procedures. Maintain cleanliness and proper functioning of medical equipment, adhering to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques. Provide excellent patient service by answering questions, explaining procedures clearly, and ensuring a comfortable experience for each patient. Experience Prior experience in a medical office setting, ophthalmology or optometrist practice is preferred but not required; training will be provided for specific equipment operation. Knowledge of medical terminology related to ophthalmology, anatomy of the eye, and physiology is highly advantageous. Familiarity with EMR/EHR management systems ensures accurate documentation and efficient workflow. Experience with ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as tonometers, OCT and/or Optos is a plus. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations, patient confidentiality practices, and clinical confidentiality policies is essential. Demonstrated ability to provide direct patient care with professionalism, compassion, and attention to detail. Retail math or optical experience can be beneficial for understanding optical measurements and eyewear fitting processes.
