Role Description The Optometric Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in Tyler, TX, supporting optometrists in delivering efficient and accurate patient care. Day-to-day responsibilities include greeting patients, obtaining medical and vision histories, performing preliminary tests such as visual acuity and tonometry, and preparing patients for examinations. The Optometric Assistant will schedule and confirm appointments, manage patient flow, maintain exam rooms and equipment, and assist with contact lens training and basic eyewear selection. Additional duties may include entering data into practice management systems, handling basic insurance or billing inquiries, and providing clear, courteous communication to patients throughout their visit. This role works closely with clinical and administrative staff to maintain a smooth, organized, and patient-centered environment. Qualifications Candidates should possess foundational knowledge of optometry and basic eye examination procedures. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills and customer service abilities for direct patient interaction. Candidates should possess appointment scheduling and general administrative skills to support front-desk operations. Candidates should possess the ability to provide training and guidance to patients, particularly in contact lens handling and care. Candidates should possess attention to detail, accurate data entry skills, and the ability to follow clinical protocols. High school diploma or equivalent required; prior experience in an optometric, ophthalmic, or medical office is preferred. Comfort working with electronic health records and practice management software is beneficial. Ability to stand for extended periods, assist with basic clinical tasks, and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
