Job Description
Overview Join our dynamic ophthalmology team as an Ophthalmology Testing Technician/Scribe, where you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and supporting clinical operations. You will be instrumental in assisting ophthalmologists during patient examinations, managing medical records, and maintaining a safe, efficient clinical environment. Responsibilities Assist ophthalmologists during patient examinations by performing visual tests and documenting findings accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Athena. Ability to quickly type dicatation information into EMR system, Manual skills for computer data entry Conduct pre-test procedures including intake, vital signs measurement, and ensuring patients are comfortable and informed about procedures. A bility to perform Ophthalmology testing, Visual fields, OCT, fundus photos Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy and confidentiality at all times. Support clinic operations by managing medical records, updating patient charts, and ensuring proper documentation of test results and clinical notes. Apply aseptic techniques when handling ophthalmic equipment and supplies to prevent infection or contamination. Collect detailed patient histories related to eye health, medications, and symptoms using medical terminology and anatomy knowledge to assist physicians effectively. Collaborate with front desk staff on scheduling, patient check-in/out processes, and insurance verification to streamline clinic flow. Demonstrate proficiency with EMR systems such as Athena for accurate data entry, appointment scheduling, and billing support. Engage in ongoing learning about ophthalmology procedures, physiology of the eye, and medical coding/billing practices to enhance service quality.
Skills Strong understanding of patient care principles with excellent communication skills to interact empathetically with diverse patient populations including pediatrics. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality of medical information. Experience with intake procedures, vital signs measurement, and basic clinical assessments within a ophthalmology setting. Familiarity with aseptic techniques necessary for handling ophthalmic instruments and supplies safely. Optical experience or background in ophthalmology enhances ability to assist with testing equipment setup and troubleshooting. Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Athena or similar platforms for documentation and scheduling purposes. Solid foundation in medical terminology, anatomy of the eye, physiology concepts relevant to vision health, and medical coding/billing practices. Prior clinic experience or medical office experience preferred; Ability to work efficiently at the front desk managing appointments, insurance verification, and administrative tasks while maintaining a positive attitude.
