Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our eye care team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in ophthalmic procedures, patient care, and medical office operations. As an integral part of our clinic, the Optometric Technician will support optometrists by preparing patients for examinations, operating diagnostic equipment, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional patient service. Responsibilities Conduct preliminary patient assessments including , medical history intake, and updating electronic health records (EHR) systems with accurate information. Operate ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment devices and tonometers to assist in comprehensive eye examinations. Assist with ophthalmic procedures by maintaining aseptic technique and adhering to clinical confidentiality policies to ensure patient safety and privacy. Support optometrists during eye refraction tests, visual acuity assessments, and other diagnostic procedures requiring detailed knowledge of ocular physiology and anatomy. Manage patient flow at the front desk, including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and maintaining medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Provide excellent patient service by explaining procedures clearly, addressing questions professionally, and ensuring a comfortable experience for all patients. Assist with inventory management of ophthalmic supplies and medical equipment operation, including calibration and maintenance of diagnostic tools. Support administrative tasks such as medical billing, coding, and retail sales of optical products when necessary to enhance clinic operations. Experience Prior experience working in a medical office setting, preferably within ophthalmology or optometry clinics. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or similar platforms for managing patient data efficiently. Knowledge of ophthalmic diagnostic procedures including tonometry, eye refraction, and the use of clinical imaging equipment. Understanding of HIPAA compliance standards related to patient confidentiality and clinical confidentiality policies. Experience with medical terminology relevant to eye care and general physiology knowledge related to ocular anatomy. Demonstrated ability to provide direct patient care with excellent communication skills in a fast-paced environment. Retail optical experience or background in sales is advantageous for supporting optical product consultations.
