  • Optical Sorting Technician II The Optical Sorting Technician II is responsible for operating, maintaining, and optimizing advanced optical sorting and grading systems.
This role ensures that production consistently meets required throughput, yield, and quality standards. The position emphasizes precise equipment setup, calibration, and real-time adjustments to maintain food safety, product quality, and operational efficiency within a high-paced manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Operate optical sorting and grading equipment to meet established production, quality, and yield targets. Perform equipment setup, calibration, and product changeovers based on production needs and customer specifications. Continuously monitor system performance and make real-time adjustments to detection settings, size and color parameters, and sorting logic. Optimize machine settings to reduce waste and maintain consistent product quality in line with GMP and HACCP standards. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, software, and calibration issues; collaborate with Maintenance, QA, and OEM support as required. Analyze equipment data and logs to identify root causes of sorting or quality issues and implement improvements. Maintain accurate records for production, calibration, and quality in accordance with SOPs and regulatory requirements. Adhere strictly to operational procedures to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant equipment operation. Assist in training team members by sharing technical expertise and supporting onboarding initiatives. Identify opportunities for process improvement to enhance efficiency, uptime, and product quality. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Production, Quality, and Maintenance, to achieve production goals. Adapt to seasonal demands and shifting priorities while maintaining performance standards. Required Skills Proven experience operating and optimizing optical sorting or similar automated inspection systems. Strong mechanical and technical aptitude in handling automated production equipment. Experience in calibration and fine-tuning of detection systems, including size and color models. Proficiency with system interfaces and optimization software for performance monitoring. Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, software, and calibration issues. Knowledge of food safety practices, including GMP and HACCP compliance. Strong analytical skills to interpret performance data and improve operational outcomes. Ability to follow detailed SOPs and maintain accurate documentation. Effective communication skills for cross-functional collaboration. Capability to work independently in a fast-paced production setting. Commitment to teamwork, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing. Additional Qualifications Experience with optical or vision-based inspection systems in production or quality settings. Background in food processing, food safety, or quality control environments. Hands-on involvement in equipment optimization and process improvement initiatives. Comfort working with reports and data for decision-making. Flexibility to work day/night shifts as required. It is a fast-paced, team-oriented environment requiring coordination across Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams. Proper safety and production attire must be worn at all times. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Royal City, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00
