An Ophthalmic Technician makes prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses by cutting and shaping lenses according to individual prescriptions. May make lenses for other optical equipment, such as telescopes or microscopes. Works in medical equipment manufacturing facilities and laboratories, retail stores, or in the offices of optometrists and physicians.
Tower Clock Eye Center is looking to add a few new Ophthalmic Technicians to our teams in Green Bay, Appleton, and Shawano! As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will be responsible for daily patient care and the flow of clinic activities. You will assist physicians directly by performing the administrative tasks and technical functions delegated to allow for comprehensive professional diagnosis, increased patient confidence, and complete patient understanding of all treatment rendered. •This position is based out of our Green Bay location and requires regular travel to our satellite clinics in Appleton and Shawano as needed to support business operations. Reliable transportation, a clean driving record, and the ability to travel between locations are required. Mileage above and beyond your normal commute will be reimbursed.
Summary of Responsibilities/Duties:
Promptly and professionally assist the doctor in patient care. Perform technical workups, patient interviews, document histories, and perform special testing as needed. Demonstrate working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications. Understand and utilize proper sterile techniques and universal precaution procedures. Maintain exam room inventory levels as needed. Update and stock patient education materials. Use excellent guest relations skills in all interactions with patients, visitors, and staff. Greet patients promptly and professionally while building a sustainable relationship of trust through open and interactive communication and by going the extra mile. Resolve problems by clarifying issues; researching and exploring answers and alternative solutions; implementing solutions; escalating unresolved problems to appropriate person when needed. Understand and follow procedures for surgical and procedural consents. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times and communicate with the compliance officer regarding procedural changes and concerns. Cooperate and communicate with all staff members and physicians about patient matters. Provide management with patient feedback of practice services. Be willing to travel to other Tower Clock Eye Center clinic sites as needed.
Minimum Education Requirements:
High school diploma or
GED Skills/Abilities and Experience:
Demonstrate working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications. Must be able to accurately perform refractions, lensometry, tonometry, visual fields, pupil exams, topography, OCT, and biometry. Must understand and use proper sterile techniques and utilize proper universal precaution procedures. Must possess excellent communication skills and have a customer focus with adaptability to different personality types. Ability to perform well as a team in a fast-paced environment and maintain a high level of accuracy while performing a variety of tasks. Requires strong skills in operating computers, various software programs (practice management, electronic health records), data entry, word processing software, fax machines, and copier machines. Be willing and have a desire to learn by instruction from coworkers and physicians. Willingness and ability to travel to other clinic locations as part of the job responsibilities.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods during the day. Must have manual dexterity to work with ophthalmic equipment Travel to satellite clinics, (clinics beyond your "home" clinic), for staffing will be required - on average twice in a biweekly pay period.
