An Optician fits eyeglasses and contact lenses according to prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists. Helps customers choose eyeglass frames and contact lenses, and repairs or refits broken frames. Works in the office of an optometrist or physician, or in a store that sells eyeglasses.
Seeking a highly motivated candidate with excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively assist patients in the dispensary. Applicants must have a minimum of 1-year experience as a dispensing optician. This position is requiring knowledge and experience in design, measure, fi, and adapt lenses and frame for clients according to written optical prescriptions or specifications. Applicant must have general knowledge in the various private, and state insurance plans. Must be able to works closely with Optometrists and staff to support the maintenance and delivery of excellent quality patient care.
Major Position Responsibilities and Functions:
Greet patient in a professional and pleasant manner. Responsible for completing and placing all spectacle and contact lens orders, communicating next steps to the patient and contacting the patient when order has arrived. Responsible for tracking and ensuring timely completion of all spectacle and contact lens orders. Filing all lab orders with the various labs, submission of correct and accurate lab orders to include instructions for grinding, mounting lenses in frame, lens add-ons, and verifying exactness of finished lens spectacles. Ordering of contact lens prescriptions, teach and training of contact lens wear and maintenance. Responsible for checking in and inspecting spectacle and contact lens orders, verifying that the orders matches the prescription and appropriate lens measurements (segment heights/PD's) and overall quality of product received. Maintain a proper inventory of frames. This includes pricing frames, helping consolidate inventory, and ensuring a clean and orderly frame selection display. Responsible for maintaining a steady patient flow. Responsible for dispensing spectacle orders, which includes proper fitting, testing of multifocal lenses specifically the reading portion of the lens, providing frame supplies, adjustments and ensuring overall satisfaction of patient with their lens selection. Ensuring proper authorizations and billing of the various vision insurance plans. Ensure efficient and effective lab communications. Perform recall tasks, to include following up on all missed appointments and patients who do not pick up their glasses/contact lenses. Performing follow-up calls to patient after frame/contact lenses have been dispensed to confirm satisfaction with selection. Assisting optometric technicians with patient pre-testing (NCT, Visual Acuities, Review of Systems/Health History, Retinal Imaging) to ensure a steady patient flow. Responsible for maintaining program logs, as assigned by the clinic manager. Review all forms to ensure that charts are completed after each patient visit. Patient education and scheduling of any follow-up appointment care. Responsible for clinic closure duties, to include securing facility at the end of the shift, as assigned. Responsible for complying with HIPPA standards and observing strict patient confidentiality. Other job duties as assigned.
