Responsibilities Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear by conducting detailed consultations, considering prescriptions, face shape, and lifestyle needs. Dispense spectacle lenses accurately, perform eyewear fittings, and make frame adjustments to ensure optimal comfort and functionality. Operate optical laboratory equipment efficiently for lens cutting, edging, and mounting while maintaining strict adherence to aseptic techniques and safety protocols. Manage patient records within Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies. Conduct basic vital signs assessments when required, supporting clinical staff with patient evaluations related to ophthalmology and pediatrics cases. Handle retail sales transactions using POS systems, including cash register operations, processing payments accurately, and maintaining inventory control. Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries about ophthalmology procedures, health regulation policies, and product features while fostering trust and satisfaction. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure compliance with state healthcare regulations and medical coding standards related to optical services. Requirements Proven experience as an optician or in retail optometry with a focus on spectacle lens dispensing and eyewear fittings. Strong knowledge of optics, anatomy of the eye, physiology principles related to vision health, and medical terminology relevant to ophthalmology. Familiarity with optical laboratory equipment and processes such as lens edging, mounting, frame adjustment, and aseptic techniques. Experience working within healthcare environments that require adherence to HIPAA regulations, clinical confidentiality policies, and health regulation policies. Proficiency in using EMR/EHR systems for patient documentation along with POS systems for retail transactions. Basic math skills for measurements, prescriptions interpretation, and financial transactions; knowledge of retail math is advantageous. Excellent customer service skills combined with the ability to communicate complex information clearly to patients of all ages including pediatrics. Knowledge of state healthcare regulations concerning optometry practice is preferred; prior retail sales experience is highly valued.
