The Optician will work primarily within the optical dispensary working with patients and performing a variety of optical technical duties.

Optician Responsibilities:

Obtaining patient prescriptions from optometrists and ophthalmologists. Tracks eyewear orders from the labs through dispensing to the patient; follows up as needed to ensure timely, appropriate communications, and delivery of orders to the patients. Recommending frames that suit the customer's style, face, and specifications. Adjusting and fitting frames according to the prescriptions and customer's specifications, as well as to suit the customer's face. Preparing work orders for the optical lab to use to manufacture the lenses. Using specialized equipment, such as calipers, lensometers, and lens gauges. Performs edging of eyewear. Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe Optical lab. Keeping inventory on frames to ensure product variety and customer satisfaction. Repairing broken frames. Educating customers on how to wear and maintain glasses. Performing administrative duties, such as managing prescriptions, customer records, and insurance.

Optician Requirements:

• High School Graduate or Equivalent; optical dispensary experience; ABO certification preferred but not necessary.
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 35 lbs.), stoop, bend, and perform a variety of tasks requiring good manual dexterity.
• Requires excellent customer service skills, self-confidence and the ability to communicate with a variety of customers.
• Requires initiative and diplomacy in dealing with people, as well as dependability and promptness.
