Job Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optical Assistant to join our team. As an Optical Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing excellent customer service and support to our patients. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting with patient examinations, maintaining accurate medical records, and providing assistance with frame selection and fitting.Responsibilities:
- Greet and check-in patients, ensuring a positive and welcoming experience
- Assist optometrists with patient examinations and procedures
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records using electronic systems such as Epic
- Provide support in frame selection, fitting, adjustments, and repairs
- Educate patients on proper contact lens insertion, removal, and care techniques
- Perform basic optical laboratory duties such as lens cutting and edging
- Maintain inventory of frames, contact lenses, and other optical supplies
- Process insurance claims and verify patient eligibility for vision benefits
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality
- Collaborate with the front desk staff to schedule appointments and manage patient flow
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification or training is a plus
- Previous experience in a retail or medical setting is preferred
- Familiarity with medical terminology and anatomy knowledge is advantageous
- Proficiency in using electronic medical record systems such as Epic is desirable
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Basic sales skills to assist patients in selecting frames that meet their needs
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy
