Duties Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear frames and lenses based on their prescriptions, lifestyle needs, and personal preferences. Dispense spectacles and contact lenses accurately, ensuring proper fit, alignment, and comfort through precise eyewear fittings and frame adjustments. Conduct basic eye assessments such as measuring vital signs when necessary and understanding anatomy and physiology to support patient care. Operate optical laboratory equipment for lens edging, mounting, and quality control to ensure high standards of spectacle lens dispensing. Manage retail sales transactions using POS (Point of Sale) systems while maintaining accuracy in cash register operations and medical billing procedures. Maintain detailed medical records in EMR/EHR (Electronic Medical Records/Electronic Health Records) systems, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies. Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries, explaining medical terminology related to vision care, and guiding them through their eyewear options. Follow health regulation policies related to aseptic techniques during lens fitting or adjustments in clinical settings. Support laboratory processes with optical experience, including eyewear frame adjustments and quality checks for spectacle lenses. Stay informed about state healthcare regulations, medical coding standards, and clinic experience requirements to ensure compliance across all services. Qualifications Proven experience as a Dispensing Optician or in a retail optometry setting with knowledge of optics, ophthalmology, and medical terminology. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations, clinical confidentiality policies, and health regulation policies governing eye care practices. Laboratory experience with optical laboratory equipment for lens edging, mounting, or other fabrication processes preferred. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems or similar platforms for managing medical records efficiently. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate complex medical information clearly and professionally. Knowledge of spectacle lens dispensing techniques, eyewear fittings, frame adjustments, and optical laboratory procedures. Basic math skills for measurements, calculations related to prescriptions, retail math for sales transactions, and inventory management. Ability to work effectively within a team environment supporting senior care or pediatric patients when needed. Knowledge of medical billing practices related to vision care services is advantageous but not mandatory.
