The Opportunity:
Whittier Street Health Center is seeking a full-time Licensed Optician to join our team. Reporting directly to the Lead Optometrist, the Licensed Optician assists patients with selecting and purchasing optical products, including eyeglasses, contact lenses, and specialty lenses. This position also manages inventory, maintains the optical laboratory, assists with pre-testing procedures, and performs related administrative duties.
Key Responsibilities:
Greet patients and assist them with frame selection, measurements, and available lens options. Complete order forms and place orders for eyeglasses, contact lenses, and uncut lenses. Repair and adjust eyeglasses. Instruct new contact lens wearers on proper insertion and removal techniques. Assist with pre-testing procedures, including visual field, visual acuity, color vision, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and autorefraction testing. Maintain a clean and organized optical laboratory and sales area, including optical equipment. Organize, maintain, and inventory eyeglasses and contact lenses. Contact patients with reminders to pick up eyeglasses and contact lenses. Provide receptionist coverage as needed. Assist with vision-screening services on the Mobile Health Van.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent Current Massachusetts Dispensing Optician license in good standing Minimum of six months of experience working in an optical setting Ability to process sales transactions, file receipts, and maintain organized records Ability to use electronic medical record systems; Epic experience is preferred Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and data entry Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and interdisciplinary teams Join Our Team!
