Position Overview We are seeking a North Carolina-licensed optician who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent sales and patient-care skills. This person will guide patients through frame and lens selection, interpret prescriptions, ensure accurate measurements and eyewear orders, and help create an optical experience that feels helpful, not transactional. The ideal candidate is confident working independently, takes ownership of the optical department, and can balance patient needs with the financial health of the practice. Responsibilities Help patients select frames and lenses based on their prescription, lifestyle, appearance, and budget. Explain lens materials, treatments, warranties, protection plans, and insurance benefits clearly. Take accurate optical measurements. Interpret prescriptions and identify potential prescription or fitting concerns. Verify vision insurance benefits and accurately calculate patient responsibility. Prepare, submit, and track eyewear orders. Inspect completed eyewear for prescription accuracy, quality, and proper alignment. Fit, adjust, repair, and dispense eyeglasses. Troubleshoot adaptation, comfort, vision, and warranty concerns. Recommend second pairs, prescription sunglasses, and other appropriate optical solutions. Maintain accurate patient records, invoices, order notes, and inventory information. Assist with frame inventory, merchandising, vendor relationships, and product selection. Follow up with patients regarding orders, outstanding balances, and eyewear concerns. Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing optical area. Support practice goals related to optical capture, lens sales, protection plans, second pairs, and patient satisfaction. Work collaboratively with doctors and team members to create a smooth patient experience. Follow all applicable North Carolina laws, professional standards, and practice policies. Qualifications Current North Carolina optician license in good standing. Previous optical sales and dispensing experience. Strong knowledge of lens materials, designs, treatments, measurements, and troubleshooting. Experience working with vision insurance plans and patient benefits. Excellent communication, organization, and customer-service skills. Comfortable discussing pricing and making confident, patient-centered recommendations. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to manage multiple patients, orders, and priorities in a busy environment. Experience with optical or electronic health record software is preferred. Proficient with computers and typing. What We're Looking For A warm, polished, and approachable presence.
