Hartford, CT Job Details 1 day ago Qualifications Doctor of Optometry Optometry License Adolescents Full Job Description Position Summary Charter Oak Health Center is seeking an Optometrist who will work to diagnose, manage, and treat conditions and diseases of the human eye and visual system. Examine eyes and visual system, diagnose problems or impairments, prescribe corrective lenses, and provide treatment. May prescribe therapeutic drugs to treat specific eye conditions. Essential Position Duties Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma or color blindness. Ability to document patient interactions in the electronic health records Analyze test results and develop a treatment plan. Prescribe, supply, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids. Prescribe medications to treat eye diseases if state laws permit. Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors. Consult with and refer patients to ophthalmologist or other health care practitioner if additional medical treatment is determined necessary. Remove foreign bodies from the eye as indicated. Provide patients undergoing eye surgeries, such as cataract and laser vision correction, with pre- and post-operative care in conjunction with ophthalmologist. Monitors the effectiveness of interventions. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals. Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools. Performs miscellaneous duties as required by management. Must maintain appropriate attendance. Documents patient interactions in electronic record. Maintains patient privacy and safety. Compliance Responsibilities Complies with applicable legal requirements, standards, policies and procedures including but not limited those within the Compliance Process, Code of Conduct and HIPAA. Participates in required orientation and training programs, as required. Reports concerns and suspected incidences of non-compliance in accordance with COHC Compliance Reporting Process. Cooperates with monitoring and audit functions and investigations. Participates, as requested, in process improvement responsibilities.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Core Competencies/Skill Sets Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Demonstrated clinical competence in and an in-depth knowledge of eye-related disorders and conditions. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective communications among and with other health disciplines; demonstrated ability to communicate to large groups of health professionals. Must demonstrate and maintain knowledge and competency in providing care for patients in adolescent, adult and/or age groups Professional Experience/Educational Requirements Doctor of Optometry (O.D.)
