The incumbent is proficient in evaluating patients with physical disabilities, disease or deformity for appropriate orthotic treatment. In consultation with other medical staff, residents, and therapists, the Pedorthist determines optimal treatment plan and selects appropriate foot orthoses and pedorthic footwear. The incumbent is responsible for and/or oversight of the design, fabrication fitting and modification of foot orthoses and pedorthic footwear. This is an independent position responsible for working on a variety of cases with minimal supervision. May provide care to patients in multiple practice locationsEssential Job Function Assesses patients' foot and lower limb conditions through evaluations, including gait analysis and biomechanical assessments to accurately diagnose and understand patients' specific needs. Interprets patient assessment information to develop a comprehensive plan for patient management to achieve provider prescription goals. Collaborates with medical staff, residents, therapists on optimal treatment plan for pedorthotic services; recommend treatment options to physicians when necessary. Designs and fabricates custom orthotic devices, such as shoe inserts, braces, and footwear modifications, based on patients' individual requirements and in accordance with prescription to provide patients with personalized solutions that address their foot and lower limb conditions. Evaluate pedorthotic device and any collateral prosthetic or orthotic devices on patient, adjust to assure fit, function, medical efficacy, and quality of work. Use computerized techniques to design and create three-dimensional models for the manufacturer for specialized footwear. Select appropriate orthosis. o Prefabricated Orthoses ? Takes appropriate measurements. ? Fitting and adjustment of orthosis. ? Evaluation of function. ? Instruction on use. ? Follow-up care. o Custom Made Orthoses ? Takes measurements and plaster impression needed for fabrication of orthotic device. ? Skillfully applies knowledge of tools and machines in the Orthotics and Prosthetics Laboratory to fabricate the orthosis. This includes model modification, component selection and fitting, vacu-forming, and finishing processing. ? Finishes orthosis for fitting or instructs and guides technician to do so. ? Performs fitting and delivery of orthosis to patient. ? Instructs patient and/or family on proper use and care of orthosis and goals of treatment. ? Provides follow-up care with modification and repair as needed. Document visit notes, codes, and other information into the patient?s chart to maintain an accurate and complete medical record of patient assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes to ensure continuity of care. Utilize effective materials management, quality, and performance processes to maximize device quality and medical efficacy, maintaining a proper balance between costs and operational/financial performance. Monitor inventory for patient devices and supplies to ensure successful delivery of items. Stays updated on the latest advancements in pedorthic practices, technologies, and industry trends to enhance knowledge and skills. Complete CEU requirements to maintain certification. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent and completion of American Board Certification approved Pedorthic Education precertification education coursePreferred:
Bachelor?s degree in Kinesiology, Podiatry, or a related fieldExperience Required:
Completion of 1,000 hours of supervised pedorthic patient care experience obtained either before or after completion of pedorthic education program OR if hold a nationally recognized licensecertification in a related allied health profession may complete 500 hours of supervised pedorthic patient care experiencePreferred:
