Job Description

Shelter Advocate
  • 7am-7pm Fri, Sat and Sunday 2450 Old Moultrie Road, Saint Augustine, FL 32086 $17 an hour
  • Full-time $17 an hour
  • Full-time Shelter Advocate
  • 12 hour shifts
  • Day shift 7am-7pm
  • Friday, Saturday and Sunday Responsibilities
  • Provide empowerment-based support, counsel, and/or assistance to individuals.
  • Secure the shelter for safety and enforce all shelter policies.
  • Take part in participant in evaluation, intake and discharge procedures.
  • Handle crisis hotline calls and accurately log information.
  • Provide emotional support to women and children and make referrals to Family Service Advocates for follow-ups regarding specific problems.
  • Assist with coordination of donations and distribute supplies to participants as needed.
  • Assist with keeping a clean and organized working environment. Experience and Personal Characteristics
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Must be a person who can work with survivors of domestic and/or sexual abuse as an individual or as a group.
  • Must have the ability to remain calm and rational in crisis situations
  • Must be independent, self-motivated and assertive.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Strong work ethic and dependability with minimal absenteeism.
  • Positive, social attitude and highly professional conduct.
  • Background in working with survivors of domestic violence preferred.
  • Must maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
Training Requirements Required to complete 30 hours of initial domestic and sexual violence training. Must attend and document 16 hours of training each fiscal year in domestic, child abuse, elder abuse, and other issues pertinent to providing quality service to victims of which 6 or the hours each fiscal year will be on sexual violence.

Job Position Needed:
12-hour shifts per week Job offers are contingent on the results of a nationwide fingerprinting/background check.
Pay:
