At UConn Health, the Nursing Transportation Unit is seeking a student to assist in transporting patients, equipment and supplies to various hospital departments. This position is located in Farmington, CT within the department of Logistics Management and will require availability while school is in session, during school breaks and summer. This position is temporary with no benefits.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

HIRE STUDENT MUST BE ABLE TO PROVIDE WRITTEN DOCUMENTATION OF STUDENT STATUS

(Letter from advisor/instructor on school letterhead or current class schedule including name of student and school). Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire. Must be available while school is in session, during school breaks and summer. A minimum of one (1) shift every two weeks on any day or one weekend per month commitment is required.

PREFERRED

Students pursuing a career in the Health Care industry such as, Allied Health, Nursing, Pre-Med, EMT, EMS and First Responder.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

American Heart Association (AHA) BLS (CPR/AED) or ACLS Certification or formal training Other CPR/AED credentials may be accepted at hire, but incumbents will be required to obtain American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ACLS dependent on position within six months of hire and maintain during employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

May be required to lift patients (minimum of fifty (50) pounds), walk for sustained periods (at least 45 minutes per hour) and have some exposure to communicable and/or infectious diseases. Considerable effort may be required in assisting/lifting patients.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Transports patients in a safe manner to and from clinical, ancillary and support areas by wheelchair, stretcher, bed, chair or other modes as requested to include transport of patients with rolling IV poles, oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips or special equipment; assists clinical staff in transferring patients to and from beds and stretchers; collects, delivers and handles body fluid specimens, linens and medical records following defined protocols; responds to telephone inquiries, triage calls, beepers and codes for medical emergencies and assists as directed; maintains an accurate log of calls completed in log book; transports expired bodies to morgue; assists people in and out of vehicles and escorts or transports them to and from units assisting in carrying luggage, opening doors, etc.; replenishes unit supplies; performs related duties required.

SCHEDULE

Dependent upon the needs of the department; either 7:00 am

• 3:30 pm, 3:00 pm
• 11:30 pm, or 11:00 am
• 7:30 pm, weekends as needed.

PAY RATE

$19.00 per hour, this position is temporary with no benefits.
