Duties Safely transfer patients between departments, wards, or external facilities using appropriate patient transfer methods and equipment. Assist with patient mobility, ensuring adherence to safe lifting practices and manual handling procedures to prevent injury. Implement infection control protocols and isolation precautions during patient transport to maintain hospital and community safety standards. Communicate effectively with caregivers, medical staff, and patients to coordinate transfers and provide compassionate support throughout the process. Use medical terminology accurately when documenting patient movements and related activities in hospital records. Apply de-escalation techniques when necessary to manage anxious or distressed patients calmly and professionally. Support patient safety measures by following hospital safety policies, including proper use of safety equipment and adherence to critical care transport procedures. Experience Previous experience in home & community care or hospital settings demonstrating knowledge of patient transport and safety protocols. Familiarity with patient transfer methods, manual handling, and heavy lifting techniques aligned with safe lifting practices. Basic life support (BLS) certification, including CPR training, is required; additional certifications such as critical care transport experience are advantageous. Understanding of infection control practices, hospital patient safety standards, and de-escalation techniques for managing challenging situations. Strong caregiver communication skills coupled with a solid grasp of medical terminology to ensure clear, respectful interactions with patients and healthcare teams.
