Operating Room Orderly

Operating Room Services SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide nursing support.

I. POSITION DUTIES 1.

Ensure patient safety. Assist nursing with transferring patients to and from the operating room bed and moving heavy equipment. 2. Assist in positioning patients for surgery. 3. Clean Operating Room suites and other restricted areas. Clean OR suites as assigned daily. Clean vertical and horizontal surfaces that collect dust. 4. Restock supplies, linens, and fill the blanket and fluid warmer as needed. Washes scrub sinks and replaces supplies, such as paper towels and soaps as needed. 5. Clean stretchers and beds and replace sheets as needed. Maintain equipment storage rooms. Perform individual daily extra assignments as assigned. 6. Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of equipment. 7. Dispose all linen and trash in the appropriate manner. Empty and replace sharps containers in all rooms as needed. 8. Mop floors in Operating Suites between cases as needed. 9. Perform other job related duties as assigned by Supervisor.

IV. POSITION CHARACTERISTICS

It is necessary to perform some overtime beyond regularly scheduled work hours to provide patient care. Because of the nature of procedures in the O.R. and patient care issues, this job can be stressful and hectic.

V. POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Physical and mental - Walking, standing, pushing, pulling, required to move patients. Must be able to see, hear, speak, and use both hands to easily communicate. Potential exists for exposure to blood and body fluids as well as other hazardous materials. May be exposed to radiation hazards, noise, vibration, and fumes. Personal protective equipment should be utilized as needed. Knowledge of operating room technique; possess strong organization skills and flexibility; present good communication skills; have the ability to assess priorities; present a professional image; and be able to handle periods of stress.

VI. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

The Operating Room Orderly/Cleaning Technician must possess High School Diploma or equivalent. A minimum of one year experience in the operating room is preferred. The successful candidate must have the ability to work independently as well as function within a team; have the ability to assess Operating Room needs, determine priorities, and must possess the ability to handle stress.

$17.48 - $20.00 per hour
