Summary The Patient Transporter, Lead is responsible for the maintenance and quality of patient care within Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Establish work assignments for the Patient Transporters. Dispatch Patient Transporters as workflow requires. Perform visual preventative safety inspections and report dangerous department equipment conditions to appropriate personnel. Utilize all assigned functions of the Radiology Information Computer System (EPIC). Adhere to Service Excellence Standards and Expectations at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. Exhibit excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. Exhibit courteous communication skills and an ability to work with others, exercising good judgment in performance of job duties. Demonstrate courtesy, compassion, and respect to others in adherence with the hospital's philosophy and policy for promoting positive workplace and customer environments. Work as a team to continuously improve work quality. Confirm patient identification prior to procedure by verbal confirmation on outpatients and identification band on in-patients. Summary of Other Job Duties and Expectations Must demonstrate competence in handling patients from all age groups (pediatrics to geriatrics). Document and alert the Radiology Supervisor/Director of the malfunction of various types of medical equipment used in the performance of job duties. Make recommendations to the Radiology Manager and Director as to additional transport, IV poles, and oxygen equipment needed to operate the department. Make recommendation to nursing staff on how to use proper transport modes for patients. Maintain established department policies, procedures, objectives, and quality improvement programs as well as safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Assist in the interview process with new hires when requested. Assist the Nursing Supervisor in monitoring stock levels and order supplies as needed, staying within the established expense budget. Recognize emergency situations and initiate code procedures and CPR if necessary. Assure proper handling of patient's IV and other medical devices during transport. Assist in the movement of patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, and radiographic tables, utilizing safety procedures and correct body mechanics. Clean and initiate repairs as necessary on all transport equipment. Fill oxygen tanks as needed and check oxygen regulators for proper operations prior to use. Utilize proper isolation techniques according to Hospital policy. Utilize Radiology Information System (computer system) to accurately perform all functions assigned. Utilize the Hospital Information System (EPIC) regarding transport. Must be proficient at relaying clinical information quickly and accurately to other medical personnel inside and outside the hospital. Assist patients to and from stretchers, wheelchairs, and radiology equipment to include CT/MRI scanner. Attend in-services, hospital-wide orientations, and other meetings as required. Communicate equipment malfunctions and low inventory levels to the appropriate supervisor. Rotate call as needed. Present self in a positive manner, as reflected by personal attire and etiquette. Demonstrate a commitment to flexible scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care. May be crossed trained as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Minimum Required Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education:

N/A Experience 3+ years as a transporter. Preferred dispatch experience. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must be BLS certified within 45 days of employment.
