Schedule:
Wednesdays at 9:30 AM Saturdays at 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM Approximately 3 hours per week About the Position Academy Village, an active 55+ independent living community in Tucson, is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and compassionate Fitness Instructor to lead Strength & Balance classes for our residents. This position is ideal for a certified personal trainer who enjoys working with older adults and can create a welcoming, safe, and effective fitness experience for participants with a wide range of abilities and fitness levels. Our goal is to help residents improve strength, balance, mobility, stability, confidence, and overall functional fitness so they can remain active and independent. Responsibilities Lead engaging and well-structured Strength & Balance fitness classes for adults age 55+ Provide appropriate exercise modifications and progressions for a variety of fitness levels and physical abilities Demonstrate proper exercise form and provide clear, easy-to-follow instruction Incorporate exercises that support strength, balance, mobility, coordination, stability, and functional movement Prioritize participant safety and maintain awareness of individual limitations Create a positive, encouraging, and inclusive class environment Communicate professionally and respectfully with residents Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled classes Adapt exercises when appropriate for participants with common age-related limitations, injuries, or mobility challenges
Qualifications Required:
Current Certified Personal Trainer certification Current CPR/AED certification Current professional liability insurance Experience working with adults age 55+ Ability to safely and effectively teach participants with a wide range of fitness levels Strong knowledge of strength training, balance, functional fitness, and exercise modifications Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Dependable, professional, and enthusiastic
Preferred:
Experience teaching group fitness classes to older adults Experience working in a retirement, active adult, or senior living community Additional certifications in senior fitness, group exercise, balance/fall prevention, or related areas What We're Looking For The ideal instructor is someone who genuinely enjoys working with older adults and understands that participants may have very different abilities within the same class. We are looking for an instructor who can confidently offer multiple levels of an exercise , from beginner-friendly modifications to more challenging options, while keeping the class engaging and safe. A warm, encouraging personality and the ability to build positive relationships with residents are especially important.
