  • Preschool Aide to support the Community & Cultural Services Division .
Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator & Preschool Teacher, assist Lead Teacher with students and daily curriculum in a classroom atmosphere.
Schedule:
This position is for Monday, Wednesday, Friday; with potential to sub hours on Tues/Thurs
  • 8:30am
  • 12:30pm. Additional hours may be assigned as needed for training, and other specific activities. Pay & Benefits Non-exempt, hourly. Temporary, Part-time positions are hourly and not eligible for benefits, and are limited to working 999 hours in a fiscal year (July 1
  • June 30).
No full-time regular appointment will be made from this class.

Examples of Essential Duties NOTE:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Planning and implementing curriculum alongside the lead teacher. Assist in various group activities for pre-school children ages 3-4 yrs old, including games, arts and crafts, carpet time. Room preparation and clean up. Interact and actively participate with children. Participate in maintaining a clean, neat and safe environment. Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service. Perform related duties as assigned.
Employment Standards Knowledge of:
Practices and methods of public relations and customer service; techniques and principles of effective interpersonal communication. Practices of supervising children ages 3-4 yrs old. Basic methodology of organizing groups, programs, and services in a recreational setting for those preschool aged. Safety principles and practices, including basic first aid and adult and/or child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) methods. English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation. Techniques for effectively dealing with individuals of various ages, various socioeconomic and ethnic groups, and effectively representing the city in contacts with the public. Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff.
Ability to:
Ability to communicate well orally and in writing. Ability to organize, prioritize and pace duties and tasks. Ability to follow oral and written directions. Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with coworkers and the public. Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm, positive energy, and maturity.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire, or possession of a High school diploma or G.E.D.. Some college is preferred. Candidates who have completed at least 6 semester or equivalent quarter units in Early Childhood Education at an accredited or approved college or university are preferred. Recreation, Art, Music or Physical Ed. units may be substituted, provided that these units were relevant to preschool age children.
Experience:
Minimum one (1) year of experience working with children in a preschool setting.
License, Certificate, Registration Requirements:
Current CPR/First Aid certification is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, and crouching. Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds. Perform repetitive hand, arm, and body movement on a continuous basis. Frequent public and coworker contact, occasional working alone.
