As a Personal Trainer at the Darien YMCA , you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our members by helping them build healthier habits, gain confidence, and discover activities they enjoy. You'll work one-on-one and with small groups to create personalized fitness experiences based on each client's goals, abilities, interests, and wellness needs. Hours:
Morning, Evening and Weekend hours are available! What You'll Do Develop and lead engaging personal and small-group training sessions tailored to each client's goals, abilities, and fitness level. Meet with members to understand their goals, interests, wellness needs, and individual circumstances, then develop appropriate training plans. Conduct fitness assessments, including measures of strength, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, and body composition. Teach members how to safely and effectively use fitness equipment and perform exercises with proper posture, alignment, technique, and range of motion. Provide ongoing motivation, encouragement, education, and support to help clients make lasting healthy lifestyle changes. Create a welcoming, safe, and positive experience for participants. Monitor the fitness area and equipment, address safety concerns, and report maintenance or cleanliness issues. Promote personal training and other YMCA health and wellness programs and services. Maintain accurate client records, fitness assessments, health histories, appointments, and other required documentation. Follow all YMCA policies, procedures, safety standards, and codes of conduct. Respond appropriately to accidents, injuries, and emergency situations. Participate in required trainings and continuing education to maintain certifications and stay current with fitness practices and techniques. Successful Personal Trainers combine fitness expertise with strong relationship-building and communication skills - Build genuine relationships and make members feel welcome. Listen to what each client needs rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Bring enthusiasm and encouragement to every session. Communicate clearly and confidently. Create a safe and inclusive environment where people feel comfortable trying something new. Take initiative and look for opportunities to help members discover other YMCA programs and services. Believe that small, positive changes can make a big difference in someone's life.
Compensation:
Pay is based on the type of instruction and the size of the session, with rates varying depending on the program and number of participants.
Required:
Current Personal Trainer certification from a nationally accredited organization such as NASM, ACE, ACSM, NETA, or AEA . At least one year of experience in the health and fitness field. CPR/AED, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications within 30 days of hire. Strong customer service and verbal communication skills. Ability to motivate and encourage individuals and groups to work toward their health and wellness goals. Ability to work effectively with people of diverse ages, backgrounds, abilities, and fitness levels. Ability to respond appropriately and effectively to safety and emergency situations. Formal training or demonstrated proficiency in any specialty class or fitness modality being taught. Physical Requirements & Work Environment This is an active, hands-on position. Personal Trainers regularly demonstrate exercises and move throughout the fitness environment. The role requires frequent physical activity, including walking, lifting, crouching, bending, stretching, and talking. The position involves frequent interaction with members, clients, guests, and staff and may require moving throughout the building, grounds, and recreational areas. Trainers will work around a variety of fitness and sports equipment, including weight machines, treadmills, free weights, and exercise accessories. The typical work environment has a moderate noise level.
