Job Description

No sales. No weekends. No writing your own workouts. Clients are already waiting for you. At Grit Gym, coaches don't chase business. They show up and coach. Here's what that actually means:
  • Clients provided: you are never required to prospect, cold-call, or sell training
  • Workouts pre-designed: the system builds the programming, you run it
  • Your certification is paid for: financial assistance toward an approved cert within your first 6 months
  • One consistent schedule, every week: no last-minute changes
  • Done by 7:30 PM on Fridays
  • Zero weekends.
Most personal trainer jobs in this industry are commission hustles: you spend half your time hunting for clients and the other half worried about hitting a sales number. This isn't that. This is a coaching career, not a job where you count reps, hand someone a workout, and watch the clock. ## Who This Is For This role tends to be a great fit for career-changers, teachers looking for a second act, former athletes, nurses and other healthcare workers ready for a change of pace, and empty-nesters who'd love coaching adults ages 40-70 in a calm, structured environment. You don't need a fitness background. You need to be warm, dependable, and genuinely good with people. ## Aspects of the Job As a full-time coach, you will:
  • Coach adults, primarily ages 40+, in semi-private personal-training sessions and team workouts
  • Deliver an exceptional experience through technical coaching, encouragement, accountability, relationship-building, and genuine personal connection
  • Learn each client's goals, limitations, history, and personality, not just their program
  • Help clients become stronger, healthier, more capable, and more confident
  • Create an energetic, welcoming environment where clients feel noticed, supported, and like they belong
  • Move continuously around the coaching floor: observing, teaching, cueing, encouraging, connecting. You're not standing in one spot or on your phone
  • Help clients build relationships with each other, not just with you
  • Follow Grit Gym's established coaching system, session flow, safety standards, and programming
  • Review client notes and programs before every session
  • Track attendance, progress, readiness, and follow-ups
  • Run accountability check-ins and help clients stay consistent when motivation dips
  • Grow into conducting assessments, writing individualized programs, leading progress sessions, and helping clients make decisions about their coaching
  • Help keep the facility clean, organized, and professional
  • Use downtime productively: follow-up, programming, continuing education, facility upkeep, assigned projects
  • Work as part of a team, take feedback well, and protect the standards of the gym If you're on the clock, you're working.
Clients here aren't paying for exercises or information. They're paying for expertise, structure, accountability, encouragement, community, and the kind of support that gets them to actually do the thing they've never been able to do alone. ## Who Will Succeed Here This role is a strong fit for someone who:
  • Genuinely enjoys supporting and encouraging people
  • Can be both candid and nurturing
  • Is attentive, socially aware, dependable, and proactive
  • Has real energy and presence without needing to be loud or performative
  • Enjoys coaching ordinary adults, not just athletes or people who already love exercise
  • Wants coaching to be a long-term profession, not a placeholder
  • Wants to keep learning: strength training, nutrition, behavior change, communication, client care
  • Takes ownership without being reminded
  • Can follow an established system before trying to reinvent it
  • Is comfortable being evaluated, coached, and held to real standards It's probably not a fit if you:
  • Want to sit down or check your phone between clients
  • Only enjoy writing programs or talking exercise science
  • Dislike cleaning, follow-up, admin work, or relationship-building
  • Need constant supervision to get basic things done
  • See this as a placeholder until something better comes along
  • Only want to train young athletes or people who are already highly motivated ## Compensation and Career Growth $16
  • 25+/hour, paid for every hour you're here, just like you'd expect at any other job. Most gyms only pay you for the time you're actually with a paying client; here, an 8-hour day is 8 hours of pay, whether you're coaching, in a meeting, cleaning, or prepping. Want to do more? Bonuses are available on top. Pay grows on a clear path:
  • New-hire onboarding (up to 2 weeks, often finished in 5 days): $12/hr
  • Solo (post-onboarding): $16/hr
  • Certified:
    $18/hr
  • Coach Level 1: $20/hr
  • Coach Level 2: $21/hr
  • Coach Level 3: $23/hr
  • Coach Level 3+: $25+/hr, plus bonus opportunities as you take on more
  • Bonuses are earned throughout the year for various incentives
  • Continuing education is also paid for, up to $1,200/year
  • $100/month in Club Bucks to spend on gym swag and supplements ## Schedule Monday
  • Thursday:
    1:45 PM
  • 9:00
PM Friday:
12:30 PM
  • 7:30 PM Same every week.
Not flexible, but never a surprise. ## Backgrounds That Often Fit Well Healthcare, education, hospitality, physical therapy, or any other people-focused field. A fitness degree is not required. ## Certification All new coaches complete a structured onboarding process. Certification is required within the first six months, with financial assistance provided to get you there. ## How to Apply Submit your resume through Indeed. That's the only step needed to apply.
