POSITION SUMMARY
The City of Grandview Parks and Recreation Department is searching for Group Fitness Instructors to help members of The View reach their fitness goals in a fun and inclusive environment. Ideal candidates will have a passion for fitness and have a customer service mentality. Specifically looking for Yoga and Boxing Instuctors . This position will report to the Fitness Coordinator. Job Responsibilities (Include, but not limited to) Plans and leads exercise/activity sessions in one or more assigned fitness areas, such as low impact aerobics, stretching/flexibility, spinning, yoga, circuit training, general fitness, weight training, and/or specialty training Develops individual fitness plans for members and participants based on their specific needs; evaluates the effectiveness of each individual's plan Takes blood pressure readings for center members and participants Sets up and monitors class equipment, and ensures its return in serviceable condition. Maintains cleanliness and order of equipment in the Fit-N-Fun Studio Reports unsafe conditions or broken equipment to Sports and Fitness Supervisor immediately Advises participants on program and class procedures and policies, as appropriate Distributes handouts and/or class evaluations, if appropriate, and answers questions from participants after each session; assists in performing follow up and communication with participants, as required Tracks progress of clients; maintains client files as appropriate Ensures that safety and injury prevention policies and procedures are adhered to by participants; reports accidents and prepares accident reports, as required Follows and enforces the rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing the department, as well as the rules specific to each fitness area (i.e. track, gym, cardio/strength and studio area Provides participant documentation and payment receipts, as it relates to class attendance and/or personal training sessions Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes and work cooperatively to provide quality customer service and positive public relations Maintains an attentive lookout for potential accidents in the fitness areas and surrounding facility and appropriately corrects any problems Work cooperatively with other city staff and the public Knowledge of personnel policies and procedures Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population Hold current national group exercise instructor certifications as appropriate to classes instructed, as well as current CPR and 1st Aid certifications Must be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and as needed- Replenishes cleaning wipes in Fit-N-Fun studio areas and keeps area neat and orderly
- Ability to cooperate and work effectively with fellow employees, community organizations and the public Ability to maintain records, make reports and present ideas and recommendations clearly and concisely both orally and in writing Attends staff meetings Minimum Qualifications/legal Requirements
- Group Exercise Certification
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
- Must successfully pass a background and reference checks and
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical Preferred
- A degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or Sports Science 6 months of group instruction experience Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Physical effort required for daily duties include lifting heavy weights, squatting, bending, reaching, spotting & prolonged standing and walking. Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 45+ pounds
- Manual dexterity to use standard office equipment and supplies
- Vision to read handwritten and printed material and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and by telephone Work Environment The work environment is typically indoors, and trainers will have access to a variety of exercise equipment and facilities.
