ACTIVE AGING GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTOR LOCATION
Five Oaks on Warson Recreation Center 1200 N. Warson Road, Olivette, MO 63132 POSITION SUMMARY The City of Olivette is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Active Aging Group Fitness Instructor to lead safe, engaging, and accessible fitness classes designed for older adults and individuals of varying fitness levels. The instructor will create a welcoming environment that promotes strength, balance, flexibility, mobility, cardiovascular health, and overall wellness. Classes should be adaptable to accommodate different abilities and fitness levels while encouraging participants to remain active and independent.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and lead engaging group fitness classes focused on active aging, mobility, strength, balance, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness. Provide safe and effective exercise instruction appropriate for older adults and varying fitness abilities. Demonstrate proper exercise form, technique, and equipment use. Offer modifications and alternative exercises to accommodate participants with different fitness levels, abilities, and physical limitations. Monitor participants throughout class and maintain a safe exercise environment. Provide clear verbal and visual instruction while maintaining a positive and encouraging atmosphere. Incorporate exercises that support functional movement, balance, coordination, strength, flexibility, and activities of daily living. Be attentive to participant needs and encourage individuals to exercise within their appropriate fitness level. Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled classes. Set up and return equipment to its proper location before and after class. Communicate professionally and positively with participants and Five Oaks staff. Report any equipment concerns, safety issues, or participant incidents to the appropriate Five Oaks staff member. Promote a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages participants to remain active and engaged. Follow all City of Olivette and Five Oaks on Warson policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience teaching group fitness classes, personal training, senior fitness, active aging, or a related field preferred. Experience working with older adults is strongly preferred. Current nationally recognized group fitness certification preferred. CPR/AED and First Aid certification required or must be obtained within an appropriate timeframe. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to provide exercise modifications for varying fitness levels and abilities. Reliable, energetic, patient, and enthusiastic personality. Ability to create a positive and supportive class environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The instructor must be able to demonstrate exercises and safely participate in the physical activities required to teach the class. The position may require standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting and moving fitness equipment, and demonstrating exercises for extended periods.
Pay:
$15.00 - $25.00 per hour Expected hours: 1.0 - 3.0 per week
