What they do

A Personal Trainer or Fitness Instructor develops customized exercise and fitness programs for clients. Reviews health and fitness goals, teaches correct and safe exercise technique, monitors progress and provides encouragement for clients. Leads fitness and exercise classes at a community center, club or pool. Teaches aerobics, water, strength building or other exercises and maintains equipment.

Job Description

Recreation Instructors are needed to various classes for our Active Adult population. Our centers cater to retired adults generally aged 50
  • and older.
We offer a variety of classes including fitness, art, educational, and social activities. Instructs various programs and assists with marketing of programs. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have at least one year experience related to the specific class being offered. Experience teacher for older adults is preferred.
Additional Information:
Active Adult Classes are offered at the following centers along with a select number of classes at other City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources facilities.

  • Five Points Center for Active Adults, 2000 Noble Road Raleigh, NC 27608
  • Walnut Terrace Neighborhood Center, 1256 McCauley Street Raleigh, NC 27601
ADA and Other Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions:
The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. No effective protection from weather, activities occur outside. The worker is subject to noise.
