Job Description

Plan & Deliver Classes:
Design and lead energizing, safe, and educational group sessions aligned with program goals—starting/ending on time and adhering to
CCA YMCA
class standards and procedures.
Coach Technique & Modify:
Demonstrate correct form, offer progressions/regressions, and adjust approach to support all participants' capabilities, physical conditions, and cultural needs.
Engage & Motivate:
Build authentic relationships, learn participant names, celebrate achievements, and foster a positive, community-building class culture.
Safety & Readiness:
Monitor participant safety; follow emergency procedures; ensure proper, safe use of all equipment and aquatic safety practices (for water classes).
Class Administration:
Maintain accurate attendance; follow
CCA YMCA
scheduling/sign-in guidelines and communicate cancellations/changes per association practices.
Program Support:
Participate in special events and wellness initiatives; collaborate with colleagues to improve programming quality and member retention.
Professional Standards:
Model the Y's core values; comply with all policies (including Child Protection/Code of Conduct); maintain a neat studio/pool deck and return equipment to order.
Continuous Learning:
Keep current on fitness trends; attend trainings/workshops; maintain active certifications and required Y trainings.
Required Certifications:
Current CPR/AED and First Aid (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire). National Group Fitness certification (e.g., ACE, AFAA, NASM, NETA) Modality-specific credentials for formats taught (e.g., indoor cycling, yoga, Pilates, Zumba; water fitness for aquatic classes).
Experience:
At least 1 year of teaching group classes preferred; strong class design and cueing skills; customer service mindset.
Skills:
Excellent communication; ability to coach properly and manage a diverse class safely; dependable, organized, and enthusiastic.
Technology:
Ability to use Y tools for schedules/sub coverage/communications as directed by the department.
