Role Description The Pilates Mat Instructor is a full-time, on-site role based at Lone Fir Fitness in Portland, OR. This position is responsible for planning and leading Pilates mat classes that emphasize core strength, alignment, and functional movement, while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all participants. Day-to-day tasks include designing class sequences, demonstrating exercises, offering modifications, and providing clear, supportive instruction to individuals and groups. The instructor will monitor client progress, communicate regularly with team members about client needs, and contribute to the studio's overall programming and events. Additional responsibilities include maintaining studio cleanliness, supporting client check-in processes, and fostering strong client relationships through attentive service and professional conduct. Qualifications Ability to deliver high-quality Pilates Instruction with strong knowledge of Pilates principles and mat-based exercises. Experience leading Group Exercise sessions and creating inclusive, engaging class environments. Understanding of body mechanics and basic Physical Therapy concepts to support safe movement and appropriate modifications. Strong Customer Service skills, including active listening, empathy, and professional client communication. Demonstrated Teaching abilities, with clear verbal cues and the capacity to adapt instruction to various fitness levels. Pilates certification (mat-focused) from a recognized organization; additional fitness or movement certifications are a plus. CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain one within a defined timeframe. Ability to work a consistent full-time schedule, including possible early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed. Strong teamwork skills and openness to feedback, with a commitment to ongoing professional development. Experience in a studio or gym setting and familiarity with client scheduling or membership systems is beneficial.
