Job Summary Position Overview The Personal Trainer & Floor Attendant role serves as an energetic, welcoming, and knowledgeable presence in the Wellness Center, providing high-quality training sessions while helping members feel supported, motivated, and confident in their fitness journey. This role combines personal training, member engagement, fitness education, customer service, proactive sales support, and participation in YMCA wellness programming. Personal Trainers act as role models for healthy living and ambassadors for the YMCA's mission to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Responsibilities Member Engagement & Training Support Greet, interact with, and support members in a friendly and approachable manner on the wellness floor. Deliver personalized, goal-oriented personal training sessions that incorporate strength, cardio, mobility, and healthy lifestyle coaching. Conduct introductory consultations and First Step-style sessions to help members set goals and understand available training options. Demonstrate safe and effective exercise technique, correcting form and ensuring proper equipment use. Maintain clear session notes and track member progress to support consistency, motivation, and long-term success. Provide general education on healthy habits, basic nutrition principles, and sustainable fitness behaviors. Serve as a visible, active role model by staying engaged on the fitness floor and encouraging conversation that leads to trust and soft-sell opportunities. Qualifications Proven experience as a personal trainer or group fitness instructor with certifications in relevant disciplines such as NASM, ACE, ACSM, or similar recognized organizations Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, body mechanics, and program design principles Proficiency in leading various fitness formats including yoga, Pilates, cycling, dancing, sports coaching, and functional training methods like CrossFit Excellent teaching skills with the ability to motivate diverse groups of participants of all ages and fitness levels Familiarity with gym equipment operation and safety protocols Ability to sell memberships and fitness programs effectively while providing exceptional customer service Passion for health promotion combined with a lively, energetic approach that inspires others to reach their potential Facility Upkeep & Member Safety Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized Wellness Center environment. Return weights and equipment to proper locations and keep storage areas tidy. Support disinfecting protocols and restock cleaning materials as needed. Monitor and enforce Wellness Center policies in a professional and respectful manner. Assist members with equipment setup and ensure proper safety procedures during workouts. Sales & Marketing Support Proactively engage members in conversations that may lead to personal training or other YMCA program participation. Present and promote personal training packages in a service-focused, non-pressured manner. Conduct complimentary consultations and outreach to generate new personal training clients. Maintain accurate logs of client interactions, goals, and training history to encourage retention and follow-up. Participate in sales-related conversations, closing discussions, and programming promotions when appropriate. Support broader YMCA programming by informing members about upcoming challenges, events, seminars, or workshops. Additional Opportunities for Member Retention & Revenue Generation In addition to regular responsibilities, trainers are encouraged to take initiative in: Leading short workshop-style sessions (30-45 minutes) covering strength basics, stretching, mobility, or equipment orientation. Hosting open "Ask a Trainer" blocks where members can request quick form checks or fitness guidance. Making courtesy follow-up calls to new members within their first 1-2 weeks to invite them to programs or training sessions. Acting as an ambassador for wellness seminars, member challenges, and seasonal YMCA programming. Covering group exercise or small-group personal training classes when qualified and available. Administrative & Professional Development Schedule and log all personal training sessions accurately using YMCA systems. Follow YMCA policies, procedures, safety standards, and member service expectations. Participate in ongoing professional development, certifications, and continuing education. Maintain required credentials, including personal training certification and CPR/AED. Qualifications Accepted National Certifications NASM

  • CPT Additional Requirements CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire).
Prior experience in personal training sales or client acquisition preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, communication abilities, and motivational presence.
