LIFT isn't looking for someone to count reps. We're looking for a coach. Someone who knows that great training is part programming, part teaching, part accountability, part encouragement — and occasionally knowing exactly when somebody needs to hear, "You've got two more. Quit negotiating with me." LIFT is a growing independent gym in Hixson built around relationships, results, and helping real people become stronger than they thought they could be. We train people with different ages, abilities, goals, limitations, personalities, and backgrounds. Your job is to meet them where they are without leaving them there . What we want You should be the kind of person who: Actually enjoys people. Can coach a beginner without intimidating them and challenge an experienced athlete without boring them. Understands movement, strength training, progression, regressions, and good programming. Notices the person standing alone instead of waiting for them to come introduce themselves. Learns names. Celebrates wins. Holds people accountable without making them feel like garbage. Brings energy into a room instead of sucking it out. Can explain why we're doing something instead of yelling random fitness phrases. Is comfortable coaching both individuals and groups. Shows up early, prepared, and ready to work. Cleans up after themselves because apparently adulthood still needs to be listed in job descriptions. Wants to keep learning. What you'll do You'll coach a combination of private training, semi-private training, and group strength & conditioning. That means assessing clients, modifying exercises when needed, tracking progress, helping members stay engaged, keeping sessions moving, maintaining a safe training environment, and creating the kind of experience that makes people want to come back. You'll also be part of the gym outside the workout itself. Talk to members. Encourage people. Help create content occasionally. Notice opportunities. Help us improve things. At LIFT, "that's not my job" isn't really our culture. Requirements A nationally recognized personal-training certification is strongly preferred/required depending on experience, along with current CPR/AED certification. Experience is great. Coachability matters more. We would rather hire a hungry coach who wants to become exceptional than an experienced trainer who already believes they know everything. The standard We take what we do seriously. We do not take ourselves too seriously. You should be able to laugh, have fun, develop real relationships with members, and still maintain a high professional standard. Our members trust us with their health, their confidence, their goals, and sometimes a version of themselves they haven't believed in for a long time. That matters. You probably WON'T like working here if… You want to sit behind a desk between sessions. You need someone constantly telling you what to do. You think coaching means standing beside a client scrolling your phone. You're uncomfortable talking to strangers. You believe wiping down equipment is beneath your certification. Or you want a giant corporate fitness chain with a twelve-page employee handbook explaining how enthusiastically you're allowed to high-five someone. You might LOVE working here if… You want to build something. You want members to know your name. You want the freedom to coach like a human being. You want your ideas heard. You enjoy seeing somebody accomplish something they genuinely didn't think they could do. And you want to become a better coach while helping LIFT become a better gym. Interested? Send us your certification, a little about yourself, and — much more importantly — tell us why you became a coach. If your entire answer is "I like working out," we're probably going to need a little more.
