Job Description

Under direction of Aquatic and Fitness Center Coordinator, this individual will provide contract services as a fitness instructor 2-3 days per week minimum in a Senior Living Community. This individual may also be available as a potential substitute for other fitness classes as well. Experience preferred but will consider newly certified instructors. Specific classes instructors needed for - Chair Fitness Parkinson's Exercise
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provides adequate warm-up, exercise, stretching, and cool down. Instructs residents on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles. Prepares appropriate materials for each class. Assists residents, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for members and class participants. Keeps Aquatics Coordinator informed of activities, facility needs, and significant problems. Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to. Record class attendance on appropriate sheet. Responsible for finding substitute teacher(s) when needed and reporting substitution(s) to Aquatic and Fitness Coordinator. Performs other related duties as assigned and requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age. Requirements/Certifications Must possess current CPR/AED certification Must possess current insurance Certified Instructor (AEA, ACE, AFAA, Fitour, or other), specialty/certification preferred but not necessary Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles Knowledge of water aerobics/land fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm Experience working with a senior population is greatly preferred Must be able to modify all routines for different fitness and mobility levels Ability to be professional and motivate class participants Ability to cooperate and work well with other staff members Examples of classes include; Water Aerobics, Gentle Water Fitness, Bootcamp/Circuit style class, Chair Fitness, Parkinson's Exercise

While performing the duties of this job, the instructors are frequently required to: Walk, stand, sit, talk or listen Use hands/fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms Climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds Must have a high degree of energy, be physically fit, be engaging and friendly, enjoy teaching active aging adults, and have the endurance to complete the workout. Must also be able to project voice over the noise of the pool so that the class participants are able to hear the instructions.
Experience:
