Job Description

Introduction The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. Corrections employees have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of others through careers in a variety of fields. Using evidence-based approaches, employees implement lasting change with a positive impact for the people of Wisconsin. The Department of Corrections is looking for Recreation Leader-Seniors to work in our facilities across the state. This posting will be used to fill current and future vacancies.

Fox Lake Correctional Institution (Fox Lake, WI) Green Bay Correctional Institution (Green Bay, WI) Racine Correctional Institution (Sturtevant, WI) Redgranite Correctional Institution (Redgranite, WI) Waupun Correctional Institution (Waupun, WI) Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution (Plymouth, WI) Dodge Correctional Institution (Waupun, WI) Position Summary This position is responsible for the operation, development, coordination and implementation of the gym, music, and arts and crafts programming for inmates. This includes supervising inmates, ordering supplies and materials, maintaining records and reports, inventory of equipment and supplies, and general upkeep of the equipment area. Salary Information This position is in pay schedule/range (12-64) with a starting pay of $26.11 - $34.34, plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the State Compensation Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code, and statutes. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Employees at Green Bay Correctional Institution are eligible for a $5/hour add-on for all hours worked. Qualifications Recreation knowledge gained through education, training and experience. Knowledge of planning, organizing and implementing leisure time program phases that meet inmate group needs. Knowledge of team and individual sports, rules, techniques and procedures. Skill in practicing and demonstrating team and individual sports activities. Skill in communicating to inmates about team and individual sports activities. Ability to organize, structure and implement programming initiatives, tournaments and special events.
