Category Pharmacy - Clinical Pharmacist Job Type Per Diem An opportunity exists for a Clinical Pharmacist with strong inpatient experience to support a dynamic 18-bed Med-Surg unit and a 10-bed Emergency Department. This per diem position offers a flexible work arrangement with a full-time weekday schedule and on-call responsibilities, providing critical medication management to ensure patient safety and optimal therapeutic outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Verify and review medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, and safety. Compound sterile medications including IV admixtures and unit dose medications; note that chemotherapy or hazardous drugs are not handled at this site. Respond promptly and effectively to any emergency room codes as necessary. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and sterile compounding guidelines. Monitor patients' medication therapy and collaborate with physicians and nurses on clinical recommendations. Occasionally refill Pyxis machines at two local family health centers. Provide on-call coverage on weekends and after hours, though calls are infrequent.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Active and clear California Pharmacist License is mandatory. Minimum of 2 years of inpatient pharmacy experience. Experience in sterile compounding and comfort working independently as the sole pharmacist preferred. Familiarity with software systems such as CPSI/Evident and Pyxis preferred; training available if necessary. Ability to accommodate on-call hours reliably.
Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, full-time day shifts. On-call coverage on weekends and after hours.
Additional Information:
A pharmacy technician working PRN is available to help full-time during the contract to assist with inventory and data entry if desired. Travel expenses will be passed through as applicable.
