Job Description

Category Pharmacy - Staff Pharmacist Job Type Contract Located in Alturas, California, this travel contract role offers an 8-week assignment starting ASAP, with 8-hour day shifts Monday through Friday. A full travel package is provided, including housing, meals, and mileage. Under the guidance of the Retail Pharmacy Manager, you will oversee retail pharmaceutical services, ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations. Responsibilities include compounding and dispensing medications, reviewing prescriptions for accuracy, directing pharmacy technicians, and counseling patients on drug use and safety. You will maintain quality assurance protocols, security of controlled substances, manage pharmacy files and inventory, handle third-party prescription systems, and maintain strong professional relationships with healthcare staff. Additionally, you will instruct pharmacy interns and technicians and help maximize pharmacy sales while controlling expenses.
Key Responsibilities:
Compound, dispense, and review prescribed medications for patient care Supervise pharmacy technicians in pharmaceutical preparation Counsel patients on medication usage, side effects, and storage Manage quality assurance, controlled substance security, and waste disposal Maintain accurate pharmacy records, inventory, and third-party billing systems Report prescription errors and adhere to medication incident policies Collaborate with physicians and healthcare professionals Instruct pharmacy interns and technicians on regulations and practice standards Ensure pharmacy policies remain current and consistent
Qualifications:
Active California Pharmacist License in good standing required Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD from ACPE-accredited college Current BLS Certification Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office applications Ability to collaborate effectively across organizational levels
Preferred:
PharmD designation preferred Retail pharmacy experience, especially in rural or critical access hospital settings
