The Per Diem Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the overall operation, supervision and direction of St. John's centralized pharmacy and decentralized dispensary model. The Pharmacist reports to the Director of Pharmacy (DOP) and works closely with the DOP, Clinic Managers, and other Clinic Staff where a dispensary or pharmacy exists.
QUALIFICATIONS
Pharmacist degree from an accredited school of pharmacy. A Pharm.
D. Degree or higher desirable Pharmacist must be registered or licensed by the California Board of Pharmacy; current and clear status license Prior experience in retail and/or specialty pharmacy or equivalent preferred. A minimum of 1 year of pharmacist experience in a retail pharmacy setting. Clinical expertise in specialty pharmacy desirable, particularly in HIV and Hepatitis B & C. Experience working in underserved communities such as undocumented workers, unaccompanied minors, LGBT populations, communities of color, youth/adolescents, and those experiencing homelessness, substance abuse, and/or mental illness; and Bilingual English/Spanish preferred (read, write, speak Valid CA Driver's License and car required for travel to different clinic sites and community events
RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves a Pharmacist at all St. John's dispensary/pharmacy locations. There is no commitment to a set minimum hours per week. Shifts are available per business needs. Performs pharmacy practices in compliance with California Board of Pharmacy laws and regulations, and including

requirements. Maintains up to date clinical knowledge of prescription drugs, OTC drugs, vaccines, and supplemental products that may interact with patient's prescription medications. Provides direct supervision and is responsible for inspecting the pharmacy technicians/clerks day to day work for productivity and accuracy. Oversees and adjusts all workflows, space and systems needed to meet operational expectations. Provides training and supervision to Pharmacy Technicians and Clerks, as appropriate. Assists the maintenance of inventory practices Adherence to insurance payer's formulary and ensure proper billing of prescription claims. Makes decisions regarding generic substitutions of prescribed pharmaceuticals when clinically appropriate. Demonstrates clinical and practical knowledge of the MHLA formulary, Medi-Cal FFS formulary, and other Medi-Cal Managed Care Organization Health Plan's formulary (i.e. LA Care, Health Net, Molina, and etc.) Advise St. John's Providers of MHLA formulary alternatives, as clinically appropriate, when non-formulary products are prescribed. Process, Fill, Dispense, and Consult prescriptions per CA BOP laws and regulations, and including in compliance with third party payers audit/billing compliance requirements. Review and verify new and refill prescriptions issued by authorized prescribers to ensure accuracy and clinical appropriateness. Performs Quality Assurance on filled prescription orders to ensure accuracy of data entry information, clinical appropriateness of prescribed drugs, and including the correct medications being dispensed to the correct patients. Pharmacists are ultimately responsible for prescription accuracy and medication errors. In adherence to CA BOP laws/regulations and third party payer's audit requirements, Pharmacists must counsel or offer to counsel patients on new prescription orders or when there are changes to current prescriptions. Provide information and educational materials to patients and Providers when necessary. Comply with the 340b Drug Pricing Program and HRSA Office of Pharmacy Affairs rules and regulations. Become knowledgeable in 340B requirements for eligible patients, replenishing inventory and special billing conditions. Must be comfortable participating in community activities that promote the Mission of St. John's Well Child and Family Center, Williams Pharmacy, and Clinic Dispensaries. Assist the Director of Pharmacy in growing the business through "gold standard" customer service, customer retention, and new customer enrollment. Participate in various clinical programs that improve the quality of life of our patients, enhance our patient's adherence to therapy, and communicate with providers when applicable regarding status of patient's therapy's appropriateness. Review and verify new and refill prescriptions issued by authorized prescribers to assure accuracy and clinical appropriateness. Answer questions and provide drug/therapy information to patients and providers with regards to drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals. Function as primary resource in handling patient's clinical and non-clinical questions from routine to complex, while ensuring a high level of customer service and maximizing productivity. Handle physician-related calls of clinical and/or non-clinical nature in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment. Assist patients with insurance enrollment, benefits verification, eligibility verification, and/or other medical services when appropriate. Consistently meet established productivity, schedule adherence and quality standards. Maintain a good attendance record. Adhere to St. John's and department policies, procedures, and processes. Collect patient specific data for prescription and billing processing, including but not limited to third party payers, delivery preferences, allergies and additional information as required or requested when appropriate. Accept customer complaints and communicate to appropriate management staff members (e.g. Director of Pharmacy, COO, HR), in addition to documenting according to St. John's and department policy when appropriate. Attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events as needed; and Other duties may be assigned or may be modified as business needs dictate.
