Job Description

Full-Time Staff Pharmacist
  • Canastota, NY (with shifts in Hamilton) Dougherty Pharmacy
  • Canastota, NY 13032
Full-time Pay:
$60
  • $65 per hour base, plus quarterly bonuses and a weekly benefits stipend — total compensation of $75
  • $85 per hour About the role Dougherty Pharmacy is a family of independent, community pharmacies serving small towns across Central New York.
We're looking for a full-time staff pharmacist whose shifts will be primarily at our Canastota store, working alongside our pharmacist-in-charge there, with regularly scheduled shifts at our Hamilton location as well. Both stores are within a short drive of each other and share the same team, systems, and approach to patient care. This is a role for someone who wants to actually know their patients. Our pharmacists work at the counter, answer the phone, run immunization clinics, and make the calls to prescribers themselves. We do have goals, and we take them seriously — but we don't nag about them the way the chains do. When our pharmacists hit their targets and run their stores efficiently, they're rewarded for it with real quarterly bonuses, not a pat on the back. And we staff our stores properly: we err on the side of being overstaffed rather than stretching our pharmacists as thin as possible, and you can expect adequate technician support on every shift so you can do the job the way it should be done. No scripted upsells, no 14-hour shifts alone behind glass. Schedule Full-time, 30-40 hours per week — we'll build the schedule around what works for you Shifts primarily at Canastota, with scheduled shifts at Hamilton as part of a set rotation No Sundays. No major holidays. Our stores are closed, so you're home. Every other Saturday at Canastota — a short shift, since the store closes at 1:00 PM on Saturdays What you'll do Verify and dispense prescriptions accurately and efficiently Counsel patients on new and existing medications, interactions, and adherence Administer immunizations (flu, COVID, shingles, pneumonia, RSV, etc.) Communicate with prescribers on clarifications, therapeutic substitutions, and prior authorizations Oversee pharmacy technicians and support their day-to-day workflow Manage inventory, controlled-substance compliance, and NYS/DEA recordkeeping Support our clinical services (medication synchronization, adherence packaging, point-of-care testing, and similar programs as they grow) Help keep the store running as a team — this is a small pharmacy, and everyone pitches in What we're looking for PharmD or BS Pharm from an accredited program Active New York State pharmacist license in good standing (or eligible for licensure by the start date) Must be willing to administer vaccinations — NYS immunization certification required (or obtained before your start date) Retail or community pharmacy experience preferred; new graduates with strong rotations encouraged to apply Reliable transportation for shifts between Canastota and Hamilton Patient-first attitude, good judgment, and the ability to keep a calm, organized workflow on busy days Benefits $60
  • 65 per hour base pay , with total compensation of $75
  • 85 per hour once quarterly bonuses and the weekly stipend are included Significant quarterly bonuses on top of base pay, tied to clear store goals and efficient operations — metrics we actually pay out on, not just track 3% 401(k) contribution from the company — automatic, not a match; you receive it whether or not you contribute anything yourself Paid time off Employee discounts Closed Sundays and major holidays Well-staffed stores with adequate technician support on every shift — we'd rather be a little overstaffed than run you ragged Weekly benefits stipend of approximately $250 (about $13,000 per year, reviewed annually) — paid in every paycheck to help offset the cost of health insurance or use however you choose.
We don't offer a group health plan; this stipend is taxable cash that's yours regardless of where or whether you buy coverage. About us Dougherty Pharmacy is independently owned and operated, with locations in Canastota, Hamilton, Morrisville, and neighboring communities. We've built our reputation on knowing our customers by name, filling prescriptions quickly, and being the pharmacy people call when the chain down the road puts them on hold. Our pharmacists have real autonomy and a real voice in how the store is run. How to apply Apply through Indeed with your resume. A short note about why community pharmacy appeals to you is welcome but not required. We review every application and respond to qualified candidates within a few business days.
