Travel/Contract Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Inpatient Pharmacist for a 13-week contract assignment at a hospital pharmacy in Oneonta, NY. The ideal candidate will have recent inpatient pharmacy experience and be comfortable with medication order verification, dispensing, pharmacokinetic dosing, sterile compounding, and pharmacy technician oversight. This position offers a primarily weekday daytime schedule with no current routine weekend, holiday, or formal on-call requirements. Schedule The inpatient pharmacy operates Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM-5:00 PM .
Not currently anticipated. An every-3rd-weekend rotation may become necessary if staffing needs change due to an upcoming leave.
On-Call:
No formal call rotation is currently required. The pharmacy currently distributes approximately 2-3 nights of call per pharmacist, and an experienced traveler may be added to the call schedule after appropriate training. Key Responsibilities Verify inpatient medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness Dispense medications for hospitalized patients Provide pharmacokinetic dosing support, including vancomycin and aminoglycosides Oversee pharmacy technicians and daily pharmacy workflow Support general inpatient pharmacy operations Perform and oversee sterile/immediate-use compounding activities Maintain compliance with applicable USP <797> and USP <800> standards Work effectively within an automated inpatient pharmacy environment Collaborate with pharmacy and hospital staff to support safe medication use Routine participation in codes, rapid responses, multidisciplinary rounds, or antimicrobial stewardship is not expected for this assignment. Sterile Compounding Requirements Recent sterile compounding experience is required.
Candidates should be comfortable with:
Immediate-use sterile compounding Sterile compounding workflow Proper gloving, garbing, and hand hygiene USP <797> and USP <800> practices Pharmacy technician oversight during compounding Finger-tip testing Media-fill testing and competency requirements Onsite competency validation will be completed as part of orientation. Required Qualifications Recent inpatient hospital pharmacy experience Retail/outpatient-only pharmacy experience does not meet the requirements Experience with sterile compounding and technician oversight Comfortable with pharmacokinetic dosing Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced inpatient pharmacy Must meet applicable New York State pharmacist licensure requirements BS in Pharmacy or PharmD accepted; PharmD is not required No specific specialty-area experience is required. Experience in areas such as ED, ICU/SCU, Med/Surg, OR, OB, or other inpatient settings is acceptable.

BD/Pyxis Candidates should be comfortable working in an automated inpatient pharmacy environment. Department Information Approximately 500 medication orders/prescriptions per day Approximately 3.2 pharmacists and 4 pharmacy technicians Department is currently fully staffed Strong focus on safe and efficient inpatient medication distribution and clinical pharmacy support Floating Based on operational needs, the pharmacist may provide coverage at another affiliated hospital location in the Oneonta/Delhi, NY area . Orientation & Training A minimum of 2 weeks of orientation and training is expected before the pharmacist works independently. Orientation length may vary depending on prior inpatient experience and demonstrated competency. Sterile compounding competencies will be validated onsite.
