Job Description

Job Summary The Clinical Informatics Specialist serves as a primary resource for the development, optimization, maintenance, and support of Glen Rose Medical Center's Meditech electronic health record (EHR) and related clinical information systems. This position requires broad working knowledge of Meditech across clinical and operational departments and the ability to translate clinical and business needs into effective systems solutions. Key responsibilities include developing reports using Business and Clinical Analytics (BCA), creating custom documentation and templates, managing order sets, building medication profiles, optimizing workflows, troubleshooting, conducting system testing, and providing end-user support. The Clinical Informatics Specialist works collaboratively with clinical staff, physicians, pharmacy, ancillary departments, administration, IT, and Meditech representatives to improve system functionality, data integrity, efficiency, regulatory compliance, and patient safety. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Meditech System Development & Support
  • Serve as an organizational subject matter resource for Meditech functionality and workflows across clinical, ancillary, and operational departments.
  • Build, modify, test, implement, and maintain Meditech dictionaries, documentation tools, templates, workflows, and other system functionality.
  • Develop and maintain custom clinical documentation templates based on departmental, regulatory, and operational needs.
  • Build, maintain, and optimize physician and clinical order sets, ensuring appropriate review and approval prior to implementation.
  • Assist with medication builds, medication dictionaries, order strings, associated rules, and other pharmacy-related Meditech configuration in collaboration with Pharmacy and appropriate clinical leadership.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and determine whether problems are related to configuration, workflow, user knowledge, interfaces, or vendor functionality.
  • Coordinate testing and validation of system changes, updates, and new functionality prior to implementation. Reporting & Data Analytics
  • Develop, modify, and maintain reports using Meditech Business and Clinical Analytics (BCA) and other available reporting tools.
  • Work with leadership and departments to identify reporting and data needs.
  • Create reports and dashboards to support quality improvement, regulatory reporting, operational performance, productivity, financial analysis, and clinical decision-making.
  • Validate report accuracy and assist users with understanding and appropriately interpreting reported data.
  • Develop standardized reports to reduce manual data collection whenever possible. Workflow Optimization & System Improvement
  • Evaluate clinical and operational workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency through Meditech.
  • Work directly with physicians, nurses, rehabilitation, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, registration, HIM, revenue cycle, and other departments to understand workflow needs.
  • Recommend system changes that improve documentation, reduce duplicate work, strengthen data integrity, and enhance the end-user experience.
  • Assist with implementation of new Meditech modules, functionality, upgrades, and optimization projects.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of system builds, changes, testing, and approvals. Education & End-User Support
  • Provide Meditech education and support to employees, providers, super-users, and department leaders.
  • Develop training materials, tip sheets, and workflow guides as needed.
  • Assist with onboarding and Meditech training for new employees when appropriate.
  • Provide additional education when system changes or new functionalities are implemented.
  • Serve as a liaison between GRMC departments, IT, and Meditech support when issues require vendor assistance. Compliance & Patient Safety
  • Ensure system builds and workflows support HIPAA, CMS, Joint Commission, state and federal requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership, Pharmacy, Quality, HIM, and other departments to ensure changes are clinically appropriate and properly approved.
  • Recognize potential patient safety risks associated with EHR configuration and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Maintain appropriate system security and protect confidential patient and organizational information. Education & Experience Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Information Technology, Nursing, Allied Health, Computer Science, or a related field OR an equivalent combination of education and significant healthcare information systems experience.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience working with Meditech in a hospital or healthcare environment.
  • Strong understanding of clinical and hospital workflows.
  • Experience with Meditech system configuration, implementation, optimization, or support. Preferred
  • Three or more years of progressively responsible Meditech experience.
  • Experience with Meditech Expanse MAAS.
  • Experience developing reports using Business and Clinical Analytics (BCA).
  • Experience building clinical documentation templates, order sets, dictionaries, and medication-related content.
  • Clinical background or previous experience working directly with physicians and clinical departments.
  • Experience with HER implementations, upgrades, testing, and optimization projects.
  • Meditech training, certification, or advanced application-specific education where available. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of Meditech functionality and healthcare information systems.
  • Strong understanding of clinical documentation and hospital workflows.
  • Ability to translate clinical and operational requests into effective system builds.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop and validate complex reports.
  • Understanding of medication and order-entry workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical users.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when making changes that may affect patient care.
  • Ability to independently research issues and work effectively with Meditech technical support.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, healthcare regulatory requirements, data integrity, and information security.
Other Duties This position may participate in organizational projects involving HER optimization, quality improvement, interoperability, regulatory initiatives, new service lines, and other technology-related initiatives. Additional duties may be assigned based on the operational and information system needs of Glen Rose Medical Center.
