Job Description
As a Pharmacist at MedStar Health, you will provide safe, accurate medication dispensing and clinical pharmacy services in a patient-first environment. Responsibilities include verifying orders, preparing and checking medications, monitoring for interactions, and counseling patients and families. You will collaborate closely with physicians and nurses, support medication reconciliation, contribute to quality and safety initiatives, and use modern pharmacy technologies while serving diverse communities across the Maryland-Washington, D.C. region. Responsibilities Review and verify medication orders for safety, accuracy, and appropriateness Prepare, dispense, and check medications per hospital policies and regulations Provide medication counseling and education to patients and families Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and care teams on medication therapy Monitor for drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications Participate in clinical initiatives, protocols, and quality improvement projects Maintain accurate pharmacy records and controlled substance compliance Support medication reconciliation and transitions of care Educate staff on medication use, safety, and formulary guidelines Use pharmacy information systems and automated dispensing technologies Required Skills Medication dispensing Pharmacotherapy knowledge Medication order verification Drug interaction and allergy screening Patient counseling and education Hospital pharmacy operations Electronic health record (EHR) systems Automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) use Sterile and non-sterile compounding Regulatory and compliance knowledge
