$3,000•3,400 weekly gross Job Summary The Pharmacy Operations Manager works under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the hospital pharmacy. This position provides leadership across clinical, administrative, financial, technology, staffing, inventory, and medication distribution functions. The Pharmacy Operations Manager plans, organizes, coordinates, and controls pharmacy workflow while ensuring compliance with California state and federal regulations, USP <797>, HIPAA, and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards. The manager collaborates with pharmacy leadership, physicians, hospital personnel, and other departments to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality pharmaceutical care. The Pharmacy Operations Manager will also assume the essential duties of the Director of Pharmacy in their absence and perform staff pharmacist responsibilities as needed. Key Responsibilities Work closely with the Director of Pharmacy and management team to establish departmental goals, objectives, budgets, and strategic direction. Provide leadership and supervision to pharmacy staff, including performance evaluations, competency assessments, staff development, scheduling, and staffing. Recruit, interview, train, and develop pharmacy personnel as approved by the Director of Pharmacy. Coordinate pharmacy staffing and schedules based on workload and patient-care requirements. Monitor workload statistics and ensure appropriate staffing levels. Maintain safe, sanitary, and confidential pharmacy operations in accordance with HIPAA requirements. Ensure compliance with all applicable California State Board of Pharmacy, federal regulations, USP <797>, and TJC standards. Maintain accurate medication inventory records, including controlled substances. Develop and maintain effective medication distribution systems and ensure timely delivery of pharmacy services. Coordinate maintenance and operational readiness of pharmacy space, equipment, storage areas, furniture, fixtures, and technology. Supervise the Pharmacy Biller and oversee patient charges, financial reporting, and charge-master management. Monitor pharmacy revenue capture and ensure accurate submission of patient charges. Review purchasing contracts, formulary requirements, drug expenditures, vendors, and outsourced pharmacy services. Identify opportunities to improve pharmacy operations, technology, automation, and medication distribution systems. Oversee pharmacy technology including automated dispensing systems, barcode systems, pneumatic tube systems, pharmacy robotics, and pharmacy information systems. Manage pharmacy-related projects and ensure completion within approved budgets and timelines. Develop performance standards, monitor results, and implement operational improvements. Follow ASHP Minimum Standards for Pharmacies in Hospitals. Participate in quality-improvement initiatives and support the organization's quality-improvement plan. Collaborate with the Director of Pharmacy, pharmacy leadership, hospital administration, and other departments to maintain regulatory compliance. Participate in electronic health record, pharmacy automation, barcode, and other technology user groups. Maintain professional competency through continuing education and professional development. Perform Director of Pharmacy responsibilities during the Director's absence. Perform staff pharmacist duties as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications PharmD from an ACPE-accredited institution required. Current California Pharmacist license required. Minimum 5 years of hospital pharmacy experience OR completion of a PGY1 residency. Strong experience in pharmacy operations, leadership, staffing, workflow management, and team development. Knowledge of state and federal pharmacy regulations. Knowledge of USP <797>, HIPAA, and The Joint Commission standards. Experience with medication distribution systems and pharmacy operations. Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hospital environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Preferred Qualifications Completion of PGY1 Pharmacy Residency. Previous pharmacy management or operations-management experience. Experience developing, coordinating, and implementing pharmacy delivery and documentation systems. Experience with Epic or Meditech pharmacy information systems. Experience with automated dispensing machines, pharmacy robotics, barcode medication systems, and pneumatic tube systems. Project management and team leadership experience. Experience with hospital pharmacy budgeting, purchasing, formulary management, and drug expenditures. #
