•Tamarac, Florida Position Summary A growing independent community pharmacy and medical supply business in Tamarac, Florida is seeking an experienced, motivated, and bilingual English/Spanish Pharmacy Technician / DME & Retail Operations Manager to help lead day-to-day operations and business growth. Applicants must be fluent in both English and Spanish. Please do not apply if you are not bilingual. This is a hands-on leadership position combining pharmacy operations, DME management, purchasing, reimbursement oversight, inventory management, customer service, and business development . The successful candidate will work closely with the Pharmacist-in-Charge while taking ownership of many of the business and operational aspects of the pharmacy. The PIC remains responsible for clinical and pharmacist-specific regulatory functions. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working behind the pharmacy counter, helping patients, managing DME orders and insurance requirements, monitoring reimbursement, controlling purchasing costs, supervising staff, and identifying opportunities to increase pharmacy and medical supply revenue. This position is ideal for an experienced pharmacy technician who wants greater responsibility and the opportunity to help operate and grow an independent pharmacy. Core Objectives Grow prescription, retail, and DME revenue. Improve insurance reimbursement and collections. Increase patient retention, prescription transfers, and referral volume. Manage pharmacy and DME purchasing to achieve the lowest reasonable acquisition cost. Optimize inventory levels and reduce unnecessary inventory. Improve operational efficiency and prescription turnaround time. Deliver an exceptional, high-touch patient experience. Manage day-to-day staff workflow and store operations. Pharmacy Operations Assist with prescription intake, processing, refill requests, transfers, patient communication, and pharmacy workflow within the permitted scope of a pharmacy technician. Work closely with the Pharmacist-in-Charge to improve prescription turnaround time and customer service. Assist with insurance processing, rejected claims, prior authorization follow-up, and reimbursement issues. Monitor prescription reimbursement and identify transactions with inadequate or negative margins. Help identify opportunities to increase prescription volume and retain existing patients. Maintain HIPAA-compliant handling of patient information. Perform pharmacy technician duties as needed to support daily operations. DME Operations Manage the pharmacy's Durable Medical Equipment (DME) business from intake through delivery and reimbursement. Assist patients and caregivers with walkers, braces, diabetic supplies, compression products, mobility products, and other medical equipment and supplies. Coordinate physician orders, medical necessity documentation, insurance requirements, and other supporting documentation. Verify insurance eligibility and coverage when applicable. Submit and track DME claims and follow up on unpaid or denied claims. Maintain required DME documentation and organized patient files. Monitor reimbursement and profitability by product. Identify new DME products and service opportunities. Help patients understand proper product use and coordinate delivery or pickup. Purchasing & Inventory Management Manage pharmacy, OTC, DME, and supply purchasing. Compare pricing among approved wholesalers and vendors before purchases are made to obtain the lowest reasonable acquisition cost. Maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing excess inventory. Monitor slow-moving products, abandoned prescriptions, and unnecessary purchases. Coordinate returns to vendors when appropriate. Monitor expiration dates and proactively return eligible products before expiration. Maintain accurate inventory counts and shrinkage controls. Evaluate alternative vendors when meaningful cost savings are available. Work with ownership and the PIC to improve purchasing margins. Insurance, Reimbursement & Profitability Monitor pharmacy and DME reimbursement performance. Review rejected, denied, and unpaid claims and coordinate corrective action. Understand acquisition cost, reimbursement, gross margin, and product profitability. Identify prescriptions or products that are consistently reimbursed below acceptable margins. Assist with payer and billing issues. Monitor collections and outstanding balances. Provide ownership with visibility into operational and reimbursement problems that affect profitability. Retail Sales & Business Growth Actively engage patients and customers to identify their pharmacy, medical supply, and OTC needs. Educate customers regarding available products and services. Encourage prescription transfers, refills, medication synchronization, and other pharmacy services. Develop relationships with physician offices, clinics, home health agencies, assisted living facilities, and other healthcare organizations. Identify opportunities to generate additional pharmacy and DME referrals. Maintain attractive merchandising, displays, and appropriate product selection. Monitor product sales and adjust inventory based on demand and profitability. Staff Leadership & Store Operations Help supervise pharmacy technicians, front-end employees, and retail staff. Coordinate schedules and daily workflow. Set expectations for customer service, productivity, organization, and professionalism. Train employees on operational procedures and customer service standards. Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and welcoming pharmacy environment. Address customer service concerns and resolve problems promptly. Communicate operational issues and staffing needs to ownership and the Pharmacist-in-Charge. Required Qualifications Fluent bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish are required. Pharmacy technician experience. High school diploma or equivalent. Strong customer service and communication skills. Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, or operational experience. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced pharmacy environment. Strong organizational and follow-through skills. Comfortable discussing insurance, reimbursement, purchasing costs, and profitability. Basic computer proficiency. Ability and willingness to actively engage patients and help grow the business. Preferred Qualifications Active Florida Registered Pharmacy Technician status. Independent pharmacy experience. DME or medical supply experience. Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, or commercial insurance billing. Experience working insurance rejections and reimbursement issues. Purchasing and inventory management experience. Experience supervising pharmacy technicians or retail employees. Experience developing relationships with physician offices, home health agencies, assisted living facilities, or other referral partners. Highly Desired Previous responsibility for both pharmacy and DME operations. Medicare DME billing knowledge. Knowledge of reimbursement, gross margins, and pharmacy purchasing. Experience managing vendor relationships and negotiating purchasing costs. Prior responsibility for revenue growth, profitability, or P&L performance. Strong sales and business-development skills.
