Job Description

Category Pharmacy-Director of Pharmacy Job Type Contract A leadership opportunity is available for an experienced pharmacy professional to serve as Director of Inpatient Pharmacy Services on a contract basis. This role requires a licensed Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) with strong inpatient pharmacy experience and proven management skills.
Location:
West Plains, MO Contract Duration:
Approximately July 9 to October 1, with 2 weeks of onsite training before coverage begins
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30
PM Dress Code:
Business casual or scrubs (any color or print)
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as Director of Pharmacy, overseeing daily operations and compliance Develop schedules for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians Collaborate with the Buyer to resolve medication supply chain issues Lead the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee including agenda creation, meetings, and implementation of initiatives Attend monthly medical staff committee meetings and COPD readmission reduction meetings Conduct monthly department meetings and daily weekday huddles Manage ordering and control of controlled substances Oversee payroll and manage user access to Pyxis systems Function as the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) ensuring regulatory compliance and staff support Provide resource support to pharmacy staff and address operational questions Potential involvement with sterile compounding in rare situations such as staff call-ins
Qualifications and Experience:
Active Missouri pharmacist license required Certification in Medication Therapy Services Demonstrated inpatient pharmacy experience Experience with Meditech Expanse preferred, especially managing drug dictionaries Leadership experience preferred in a similar healthcare setting Ability to manage multidisciplinary pharmacy teams and committees
Facility Profile:
This inpatient pharmacy supports specialized areas including OB (without NICU), orthopedics, pediatrics (excluding PICU), oncology, cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, behavioral health, endocrinology, podiatry, general surgery, rheumatology, and wound care. The pharmacy operates with a team of 4.5 pharmacist FTEs and 6 technician FTEs, preparing for a Joint Commission survey in Fall 2026. This contract role offers the chance to provide critical leadership during a transitional period while supporting a multidisciplinary pharmacy team. Candidates must be able to relocate or commute to West Plains, MO, and be available for the full duration of coverage.
