There are no evenings, weekends, or holidays. Job Summary Prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist. May measure, mix, count out, label, and record amounts and dosages of medications according to prescription orders. The Oncology Retail Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in compounding, preparing and dispensing medical prescriptions after receiving information from customers or patients according to prescriptions. The technician verifies prescription insurance coverage, identifies and helps resolve rejected claims, and supports the prior authorization process by gathering required information and coordinating with pharmacists, providers, clinic staff, patients, and insurance plans. Additional responsibilities may include helping patients navigate copay assistance and medication access programs, coordinating prescription refills, and communicating medication availability or coverage concerns to the oncology care team. This role requires strong attention to detail, effective communication, and a patient-centered approach when supporting individuals navigating complex cancer treatment. Must possess the skills necessary to understand written policies and procedures, perform various functions under the supervision of a registered pharmacist and participate in departmental problem-solving when needed. Must demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills and be able to learn and utilize new technology as the profession of pharmacy evolves. Assists with billing related functions. Requires use of and proficiency in multiple computer programs. Qualifications High School graduate or general education diploma (GED) required.

Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the SD Board of Pharmacy required within 30 days from the date of hire.
