Category Pharmacy-Pharmacist in Charge Job Type Direct Hire A specialty pharmacy management group seeks an experienced Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to lead the opening and daily operations of a brand-new specialty pharmacy in Lufkin, TX. This strategic leadership position requires relocating candidates from Houston, Tyler, or surrounding areas who bring outpatient or retail specialty pharmacy expertise and proven management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee compliance with all pharmacy laws, Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, and accreditation standards Act as designated PIC, accountable for licensure, controlled substance oversight, and regulatory audits Manage day-to-day pharmacy operations ensuring accurate dispensing, safety, and protocol adherence Lead onboarding of insurance contracts and coordinate regulatory inspections Supervise and train pharmacy staff maintaining quality and continuing education Collaborate with providers and clinic teams to optimize specialty medication access and patient care Investigate medication incidents with full documentation and quality improvements Maintain proper inventory control including temperature-sensitive medications and recalls Support pharmacy growth initiatives and value-based care strategies Serve as clinical expert for patient counseling, therapeutic substitution, and prior authorization reviews Develop efficient workflow processes critical to pharmacy startup success
Qualifications & Experience:
Prior Pharmacist-in-Charge or Pharmacy Manager experience required Outpatient or retail specialty pharmacy background essential; inpatient experience will not be considered Licensed pharmacist in Texas with eligibility to function as PIC Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent degree Strong knowledge of specialty medications, drug benefits, prior authorization, and financial assistance programs Proficiency with pharmacy software (QS1, ComputerRx, PioneerRx, WAM) and familiarity with EMR or specialty pharmacy systems is a plus Highly organized, detail-oriented, and a proactive problem solver Excellent verbal and written communication skills; capable of composing professional appeal letters Collaborative mindset and patient-centered approach
Location:
Lufkin, TX (relocation required from Houston, Tyler, or nearby)
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, hours to be determined
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary range $135,000 to $150,000 annually Performance bonuses Equity participation Unlimited paid time off This is a direct hire opportunity with contractual agreements already signed and an immediate start timeline.
