POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacist on duty, the Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for receiving, distributing and storing pharmaceutical products and supplies throughout the medical center. Distribution and management of pharmaceutical supplies include the following: A. Exchange medication carts B. Deliver medication to many different inpatient and emergency department patient care areas C. Receive, fill, issue, and store pharmaceutical products and supplies D. Restock floor stock medications using both manual and automated systems E. Charge and/or credit patients for medications used in patient care areas F. Initiate transfer of patient's drugs, profile, as applicable G. Put away all medication orders H. Complete medication compliance checks on the units I. Pull discontinued medications from the patient drawers J. Provide timely medication deliveries to patient units K. Maintain inpatient care area floor stock L. Complete the necessary dispensing records M. Check expiration dates N. Perform audits as necessary O. Restock Emergency Boxes and Trays P. Monitor drug product quality Q. Rotate stock on a regular basis She/he will advise the Director and Pharmacist on duty of malfunctioning equipment, maintenance problems, and any unusual situations, occurrences, conditions, reactions, or effects including those related to drugs, drug requests, usage or security. She/he must be able to work cooperatively with all hospital employees and patients and encourage and maintain good personal and business relationships with them. In addition to the daily on-site activity, the Pharmacy Technician or his/her designee will be available as needed for on-call service. The Pharmacy Technician must perform other duties as needed. This position does not provide direct patient care.
Requirements:
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician School and CA State licensure. Requires the ability to work efficiently and under broad guidelines, and must frequently exercise his/her own judgment in decision making. Regularly works with confidential information. Requires endurance to perform tasks over long periods of work hours. The position requires the ability to perform essential functions without posing a "direct threat" in the workplace.
