$27.80/hr. - $40.32hr. Purpose Statement / Position Summary This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Saddleback Medical Center. The employee shall support Saddleback Medical Center's strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities. The Pharmacy Technician is an integral member of the Department of Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician, under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, assists in preparation, dispensation, and inventory management of all medications and supplies in the Department of Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician works independently and cooperative with members of the Department of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Materials to provide safe, accurate and timely delivery of medications to patients. The Pharmacy Technician has the technical ability to utilize Pharmacy automation systems and the electronic health record (EHR). Pharmacy Technicians follow and maintain the appropriate documentation as required by law, regulation, and departmental policy. Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job 1. Monitors and triages Pharmacy communications to enhance the Pharmacy's ability to serve the inpatient hospital patients. 2. Prepares medications for dispensation from the Pharmacy 3. Participates in maintain inventory management and proper recordkeeping 4. Delivers medication to appropriate units for automated dispensing machines 5. Maintains the integrity of all medication received, stored, prepared, or dispensed form the Pharmacy 6. Ability to be at work and on time 7. Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives. 8. Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner. 9. Ability to prioritize and multitask. Essential Job Outcomes 1. Complies with California Board of Pharmacy USP 797 and USP 800, sterile compounding standards when preparing intravenous products to establish consistent, accurate and timely delivery of medications. 2. Successfully maintains competency in multiple Technician skills relevant to his/her practice area(s) and is continually aware of new or updated Pharmacy methods and work flows. 3. Able to independently use computer and/or automation resources in an efficient and timely manner as relevant to their practice and ensure accurate billing. 4. Complies with laws governing the storage and maintenance of all drugs, including Schedules II-V, to secure the integrity of the Pharmacy Department. 5. Pharmacy Technicians communicates with clear and concise information with the Pharmacists, technicians, and outer departments to improve patient care. 6. Pharmacy Technicians will maximize inventory turnover, prevent stock outs, and minimize drug wastage to optimize financial performance of the Pharmacy Department. 7. Interacts in a positive and constructive manner. Trains new staff/students in areas of his/her competency, to promote growth and development of Pharmacy Staff.
  • Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications.

Qualifications:
Experience
  • One (1) year of experience in an inpatient hospital pharmacy setting preferred
  • One (1) year of experience in compounded sterile products preparation and procedures preferred Education
  • Graduated from a Pharmacy Technician Training Program preferred
  • Current California Registered Pharmacy Technician license required
  • Current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPht) certificate preferred
