The Department of Pharmaceutical Services provides a full range of services for patients cared for by the UCSF Medical Center and its providers and payors. These services include, but are not limited to: drug procurement, storage, and security; safe, accurate and timely preparation and distribution of drugs; clinical pharmacy services for patients; development of drug use policies within the Medical Center; drug information services for clinicians and patients; and participation in technology assessment and quality assurance programs. The Department of Pharmaceutical Services is affiliated with the UCSF Department of Clinical Pharmacy, an academic department within the School of Pharmacy, which has primary responsibility for teaching professional courses in the Pharm.

Under Pharmaceutical Services, the Pharmacy Technician II provides pharmaceutical care to patients at Parnassus and Mission Bay campuses and specialized services to researchers on campus. All Pharmacy Technicians are accountable to the supervising or operating pharmacist who is legally responsible by virtue of state licensure for the care and safety of patients served by Pharmaceutical Services. The Pharmacy Technician II performs all activities related to medication preparation, inventory management, and computer entries of prescriptions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Completion of a recognized/accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program (includes hands-on training period during externship), or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • Minimum two (2) years experience in a Specialty Pharmacy and/or in a retail/community pharmacy, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Pharmacy Technician Certification CPhT

• Licensed Pharmacy Technician by the California Board of Pharmacy and in good standing.

Oversee medication inventory management, including performing cycle counts, conducting appropriate outdates and recalls, and ordering medications from wholesaler as needed. Maintain accurate records for drug inventory and prescription files according to policy and procedures. Perform monthly adherence calls to patients who are enrolled in the pharmacy patient management program. Triage issues from providers and patients via phone calls that do not require the personal attention of a pharmacist and provide prompt and courteous service. Maintain a high level of understanding and utilization of pharmacy programs and software associated with production and medication fulfillment. Perform benefit investigation and financial assistance work needed to ensure patients have access to the medication they need. Obtain and document complete and accurate medication histories from patients.
