• Job Summary and Qualifications

• Pharmacy Technician Specialist:

• Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician Specialist performs functions related to pharmaceutical preparation and distribution.

These tasks may include but are not limited to non-sterile compounding, stocking automated dispensing cabinets, unit dose drug preparation, delivering medications to patient care areas, checking medication storage areas for outdates, and billing.

• The Pharmacy Technician Specialist primarily works in one or more specialty areas of pharmacy.

Examples:

IV room, controlled substance distribution and monitoring, automation, informatics, medication reconciliation.

• Additionally, the Specialist serves as a lead or subject matter expert in their designated specialty area. They may assist with writing policies, leading committees, implementing changes and improvements in their area of specialty, serving as a staff educator or trainer, oversee projects for the department, and other duties as assigned.

• Position Requirements:

• Licensure/Certification:

  Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT or national equivalent) with Colorado Board of Pharmacy (DORA) issued Pharmacy Technician Certificate, or Colorado Board of Pharmacy (DORA) issued Provisional Pharmacy Technician Certificate
• If initially hired with a Colorado Board of Pharmacy (DORA) issued Provisional Pharmacy Technician Certificate, must achieve Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT or national equivalent) within 12 months of hire.

  High school diploma or equivalent

• Experience:

  previous pharmacy technician experience preferred

• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  As defined in competencies; ability to work accurately with attention to detail. Possesses communication, teamwork, customer service, computer, problem solving and organizational skills.

• Degree of Supervision Required:

  Minimal. Individual proceeds on his/her own initiative, in compliance with applicable policies, law, regulations, practices and procedures prescribed by his/her immediate supervisor.
