Objectives in this role:

Provide friendly, attentive, and personalized service to every patient. Support pharmacists and fellow technicians in maintaining an accurate, efficient, and well-organized dispensing workflow. Help create an enriching and collaborative work environment in which team members can succeed. Develop a thorough understanding of Front Range Pharmacy's services, systems, and patient-care philosophy. Contribute to the continued growth of the pharmacy by identifying workflow challenges, communicating clearly, and helping implement practical solutions. Protect patient privacy and consistently follow applicable laws, regulations, company policies, and pharmacy procedures.

Daily and monthly responsibilities:

Receive prescriptions and accurately enter patient, prescriber, medication, allergy, and insurance information into the pharmacy dispensing system. Assist with processing, preparing, counting, measuring, labeling, and packaging prescriptions under pharmacist supervision. Submit third-party insurance claims and work through common rejections, prior-authorization requests, refill-too-soon issues, coordination-of-benefits problems, and other billing concerns. Communicate respectfully with patients, prescribers, insurance plans, wholesalers, and other healthcare partners. Assist patients at prescription pickup, operate the point-of-sale system, collect required information, and ensure pharmacist counseling is offered or provided when appropriate. Answer incoming calls, triage requests, document information accurately, and direct questions to the appropriate team member. Support refill requests, prescription transfers, adherence programs, medication synchronization, delivery coordination, clinical service workflows, and patient follow-up activities. Maintain prescription inventory, place and receive orders, rotate stock, monitor expiration dates, and help resolve inventory discrepancies. Assist with purchasing, returns, recalls, reverse distribution, and management of outdated or damaged products. Maintain accurate records and follow procedures for controlled substances, refrigerated medications, hazardous medications, and other specially handled products. Keep work areas, equipment, shelves, and patient-facing spaces clean, organized, and appropriately stocked. Participate in staff training, workflow improvement, quality-assurance activities, and other pharmacy projects. Perform additional technician duties as assigned by the pharmacist or pharmacy leadership.

What this role is not:

This is not simply a cashier or prescription-counting position. Technicians at Front Range play an important role in patient service, prescription coordination, insurance troubleshooting, inventory management, and the overall success of the pharmacy. This is not necessarily easier or less demanding than working for a large chain pharmacy. Our prescription volume and service expectations are high, and independent pharmacy requires flexibility, sound judgment, and a willingness to help wherever needed. This is not a slow-paced, sit in a desk-chair all day kind of vibe - we all hustle around, fix problems when we see them, and genuinely care about our co-workers so none of us have to work in ways you might find in other retail pharmacies. This is not a role in which you will be expected to know everything immediately. You will receive meaningful support and training in the way we serve our patients, but learning the position will require initiative, attention, and a willingness to work through unfamiliar situations.

Skills and Qualifications:

Mandatory Requirements:

Active Colorado pharmacy technician registration in good standing, or the ability to obtain and maintain registration before beginning technician duties. High school diploma or equivalent. Experience working in a retail, community, healthcare, or customer-service environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Clear verbal and written communication skills. Ability to protect confidential patient and business information. Ability to learn pharmacy software, insurance-processing procedures, and our unique workflow. Ability to work effectively in a busy environment while managing interruptions and competing priorities. Ability to work collaboratively with pharmacists, technicians, patients, prescribers, and other healthcare professionals. This position requires extensive standing and walking and regular interaction with a wide variety of patients and team members. Schedule flexibility, including availability for assigned Saturday shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:

National pharmacy technician certification through the PTCB or another recognized certification organization. Previous experience working in an independent or community pharmacy. Experience using a robust pharmacy dispensing system. Experience processing insurance claims and resolving third-party billing rejections. Familiarity with medication synchronization, adherence programs, compliance packaging, or delivery coordination. Experience with pharmacy inventory management, purchasing, returns, and wholesaler ordering. Experience supporting non-sterile compounding. Experience delivering thoughtful, high-level customer service in a busy environment. Fluency in Spanish or another language commonly spoken by members of our community. Experience with large-scale shipping/delivery operations
